Anime that are censored in North America Rating Comment
(La) Blue Girl (OAV) The first VHS release by Anime-18 was completely uncensored. All subsequent VHS and DVD releases have been censored to remove scenes of sexual activity involving a young-looking/short ninja named Nin-nin.
Blue Submarine No.6 (OAV) The DVD release labeled "Blue Submarine No. 6: The Movie" from Bandai Entertainment is censored and contains all of the edits made when the OVA series was broadcast on Toonami (despite the 13+ age recommendation being identical to the uncut version). Discotek's original Blu-ray release has the edited audio track for the English version; however, the visuals are completely uncensored. The DVD version includes the uncut dub and Toonami dub.
Demon Lord Dante (TV) Geneon's release of the series was the television version, which blacked out/obscured nudity in some scenes. The Discotek release is fully uncensored.
Doraemon (TV 3/2005) The only version of the series available in North America is the version edited for broadcast on Disney XD.
Dragon Knight: Wheel of Time (OAV) ADV Films released a "general release version" of this hentai title which completely removed the explicit sex scenes. The DVDs by SoftCel Pictures are completely uncensored.
Haganai NEXT (TV) Funimation used the TV version of a scene in episode 2 in which a graphic sex scene involving a young-looking girl is displayed on a character's computer. (This version crops her body so you can't see the man who's penetrating her from behind.) The version streaming on Crunchyroll as of this writing is completely uncensored.
His and Her Circumstances (TV) The Right Stuf release of the series uses the television version, which makes several minor changes; most notably, some still illustrations that are visible during a sex scene in the Japanese DVD screen are replaced with a white background.
Hooligan (OAV) The original DVD and rerelease by Critical Mass Video remove some nudity involving a young girl.
Kirby: Right Back At Ya! (TV) The only version of the series available in North America is the version edited for broadcast by 4Kids Entertainment.
Kite (OAV) There are many different releases of Kite. The "standard edition" by Media Blasters, which is also the version you'll find streaming on service such as Crunchyroll and Netflix, removes all graphic sex scenes. The initial "director's cut" DVD restored the majority of the graphic sex scenes but removes one thirty-second sex scene involving an underage character. The version labeled "Kite Uncut" is the fully uncensored version. The OVA was also released in a double pack DVD with Mezzo Forte in both censored and uncensored formats. The censored version reads "2 ACTION-PACKED TITLES COMBINED" on the front, while the uncensored version reads "2 UNCUT SEXED-UP TITLES COMBINED".
Koihime Musō (TV) Sentai Filmworks' release of the series is only partially uncensored and uses "chibi" versions of some scenes which contained nudity in the Japanese home video version. Because this is the case on all international releases, this is believed to have been deliberately done on the Japanese side to discourage reverse importing.
Legend of the Pervert (OAV) Kitty Media's DVD is censored to remove a scene involved an "obviously underaged" (words of the distributor) character in a graphic sex scene.
Lost Universe (TV) ADV Films' DVD and dubbed VHS release of the series edited a scene in which a female has the word "Bitch" written on her forehead to say "Loser" instead.
Mezzo Forte (OAV) The OVA was released in separate "edited" and "uncut" versions on VHS and DVD by Media Blasters. The edited version removes all graphic sex scenes. The uncut version reads "UNCUT AND UNCENSORED!" on the front. The DVD by SoftCel Pictures is completely uncensored. The OVA was also released in a double pack DVD with Kite in both censored and uncensored formats. The censored version reads "2 ACTION-PACKED TITLES COMBINED" on the front, while the uncensored version reads "2 UNCUT SEXED-UP TITLES COMBINED".
Night Shift Nurses (OAV) The first VHS and DVD volume by Central Park Media was censored to remove scenes of urination and defecation during sex and a scene in which a man sticks a tampon in a woman's nose. This was because of the distributor's fear that the material would violate obscenity laws in some cities. After viewer complaints, the rest of the series was released completely uncensored, and the censored scenes for the first volume were included as a DVD extra on a later volume.
Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan: Demon Capital (TV) Viz Media's release of the series is the television version, which does not include nudity that was visible on the Japanese home video release.
Once Upon a Time (movie) The only release of the film available in North America is the heavily edited "Once Upon a Time" version of "Windaria". Much of the plot is altered and scenes of violence and nudity are removed.
Rail Wars! (TV) Sentai Filmworks' initial release of the series on DVD was of the television version, labeled as TV-14. Once they released this, the show was reissued uncensored on Blu-ray with a TV-MA rating.
Sakura Diaries (OAV) ADV Films' initial release of the series was the TV version, which censored/added bras during scenes which contained nudity in the Japanese home video version. A subtitled-only, uncensored release was later put out, followed by a redubbed, uncensored version.
Sankarea: Undying Love (TV) Funimation's initial release of the series was of the television version, labeled as TV-14. Once they released this, the show was reissued uncensored with a TV-MA rating.
Tsugumomo (TV) Funimation's release of this series is partially censored; some episodes are the TV version and contain obscured nudity, while others are fully uncensored. A cause for this is unknown as of this writing.
Twin Angels (OAV) Both Anime-18 and Kitty Media's releases remove about 20 minutes of sexual activity/sexual situations involving the young-looking Onimaro. Despite this, "Twin Dolls" is fully uncensored.
Yo-kai Watch (TV) Very good The only version of the series available in North America is the version edited for broadcast on Disney XD.
