Answerman, Ne?

Answerman, Ne?

Let's get busy.

Hi,

I was wondering what the deal is with the Shadow Skill Anime? The first two tapes were released, Eps 1-4, but I haven't seen anything else. I'm pretty sure that the series is longer than that, what happened to the release of the rest of the series? If there are more eps. when will they be released if ever?

Thanks

Jared

What was released was the OVA series. So far, nobody's bought the license to the TV series. There's more Shadow Skill, it just hasn't been licensed yet.

Yo Answerman, most knowledgeable fountain of answers and other dubious liquids.

I have a couple questions for you. First, do you know if there are any plans for one of the major companies that release manga in North America (Viz, Darkhorse, whatever) to pick up the Trigun manga for translation? Generally I find the manga to be more rewarding than the show, so I would love to get my hands on an English copy of this if it's available.

Second of all, do you know if there are any plans to make a Blade of the Immortal television series or movie in Japan? I would love to see my favorite hero Manji animated, and I'm under the assumption that Blade of the Immortal is pretty popular in Japan.

Thanks a lot!

---Kathleen

The answer to both of your questions is, unfortunately, no. The Trigun manga hasn't been licensed and the creator of Blade of the Immortal has said publicly that he doesn't think it would translate well into anime.

In an episode of Evangelion, Shinji and Asuka defeat Israfel, the 7th Angel, via synchronization through a short classical music piece. The extended version has the same name of the episode in which it appears, "Both of You, Dance Like You Want To Win!", on the soundtrack. Was this track created for the series, or was it originally made by a different party?

"Have you ever danced with the devil by the pale moonlight?"

It was created specifically for the series.

Hello Answerman. I've stumbled upon a few clips of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles dubbed into Japanese. At first it didn't strike me as anything strange, but then I noticed that the character designs were almost completely revamped in an anime style. I'd like to know if there was a Japanese exclusive Ninja Turtles series and/or toy line, and if so is there any company that is thinking of bringing it state side?

There was a 3-episode Ninja Turtles OVA series in Japan. It was never released here. You can download raw versions of the episodes at a few places on the net.

1. I don't know if anyone has asked this before but here it goes. Have any manga artists done fanart for each other (i.e. Yuu Watasi doing Nadesico fanart or Keiji Gotō doing Final Fantasy fanart)?
2. Is there an Anime version of Seraphic Feather?

Thanks again

Yeah. In the credits to Di Gi Charat, there are several pieces of "fanart" by popular manga artists, including Keiji Gotoh. As of yet, there is no anime version of Seraphic Feather.

What are the chances of shows like Borgman, Dunbine, Dragonar, Orguss, Zeta Gundam, Gundam ZZ, or Zillion making it to television here in the US or uncut on DVD. I know that some of these titles are off the beaten track for most fans, but if you hadn't guessed yet I'm a fan of some the older sci-fi/big robot shows and would really love to see the make it over here in some form.

Thank you.

Well, I know Borgman, Dunbine, Orguss and the two Gundam shows have been licensed and will be receiving a DVD treatment eventually (if not in the near future). I'm sure they'll all be uncut; the people licensing these shows do so because they know people like you want them. Zillion I'm not so sure of; the fan base is really small. Dragonar hasn't been licensed, as far as I know.

Hello Answerman

I have just recently gotten into the Rurouni Kenshin series and I am hooked. I was thinking about buying the dvds online, but heard a rumour somewhere that a box set (or sets?) were to be coming out. What is the chances of this happening in the near future or is there no truth to this rumor...

Thanks in advance

Near future? No way. Wait for Media Blasters to finish selling the series before you expect box sets to come out. Perhaps after they've finished the release and need to jog sales; until then, it's just a rumor. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Answerman!

I have a question about Nightwalker. The first 4 episodes of the series are COMPLETELY different from the rest, from underlying story to animation to character design. Were they originally released as OAVs or something, much like You're Under Arrest was released? That's the only explanation I can think of. Help me out, here.

--- Magus Darkstar

I think what happened there is that they'd planned the first four OVAs to sell, with the artist's original intent put on the backburner so they could sell videos. After they were a success, they continued the OVA, but allowed the original intent back in a bit. I'm not sure it's so drastic a change, though. I've seen Nightwalker. The first four didn't seem THAT different to me.

Hi Answerman!

You have probably been getting the question a lot about "when is Sailor Stars getting dubbed?" Well actually I was wondering would it be possible if Sailor Stars could be able to air on Adult Swim? That is if it ever gets licensed. If Sailor Stars isn't able to air on Toonami because of those dang Transsexual Sailor Stars, then I think it should be able to air on Adult Swim for those 'older' people.

Thanks Answerman!

Sugar

Well, it's a bit of a long shot, but it could happen. The thing is, Sailor Moon is aimed at a younger audience. They market the show to little girls (and little boys). Adult Swim is pretty set on ebbing "mature" animation; and while Sailor Stars has themes that are "mature" in the US, it's still a kid's show (Not that there's anything wrong with that. Card Captor Sakura has mature themes and is a great show, but it's still intended for children.) and probably wouldn't flourish on Adult Swim. You'd have a hard time convincing the 18-49 year old men who watched Cowboy Bebop to watch Sailor Moon.

Hi Answerman! I was wondering if Seraphic Feather will ever come to the US. Also, is Utena: The Movie based on The Adolescence of Utena? Thanks again.

Dark Horse is publishing Seraphic Feather in the US.

Yes, Utena: The Movie is based on The Adolescence of Utena. The Japanese title for the film is Revolutionary Girl Utena: Adolescence Apocalypse, indicating a more direct connection to the manga.
