I really wish they didn't skip Dangan Ronpa 2 but whatever. Wonder who will return to direct this.

I thought Kishi was already confirmed as director?

Mad hyped!! More Lerche is never a bad thing. There stuff last yeas was fantastic. such a pity Bahamut was a disappointment but Ass Class S2 so far has been absolutely incredible!!! Even with the faster paced they are adapting all the key moments. Every episode of Season 2 so far has been better than the manga. Quite the feat for a new studio

DR2 is important. It's just that the writer felt it wouldn't work as an anime, so it wasn't animated.
They're assuming you've played 2 (and most likely, Another Episode)

D3 is a direct sequel to D2. They're animating it in order to finish the original story. The game (V3) will be completely different and it's supposed to not be so closely related to the original story.
About adapting D2, I don't know why they aren't doing it, but a friend of mine said it'd be for the best since the gameplay experience in D2 was really important to the plot itself. Despite having played it, I don't particularly think it'd be impossible to adapt it, but, I don't know, maybe they felt the same?

I can understand not animating DR2 to an extent, because in the grand scale of things, DR2 depicts a relatively small event with very little bearing on the direction of the story, and the revelations within (while pretty important to the series) can easily be explained elsewhere. Plus, as raytamer's friend said, gameplay is important to DR2's story. I don't feel like it would work the same, particularly the ending.

Another Episode is a different story, though; spoiler[Monaca will undoubtedly have a role to play, and if not, then that would be a pretty big loose end.]

It may not be super crazy important to whats going on, but they are assuming you've played it, and there will certainly be references to it, spoiler[if not a few (or a lot?) of returning faces]. D3 is being made with fans of the games in mind.

Same idea behind, say, the Naruto: The Last and Boruto movies. They may be anime, but they were made for people familiar with the source material (and heck, the Naruto anime STILL hasn't adapted the ending).

Which is probably why Spike Chunsoft has just made the effort to begin publishing PC ports of their games on Steam, starting with Danganronpa 1&2. Should get the series a lot more exposure before the new anime drops.

That's not entirely correct. The original plan WAS to adapt D2, but at some point that project morphed into the sequel instead. I don't remember what the exact reasoning was, but I feel like it had something to do with not wanting to make the game fans wait even longer for story closure since the next game, which they announced alongside the anime (I think?), would be completely unrelated to the existing games (as in, they hit the reboot button. Same premise, new cast, no ties to the past games).

Do you really think it'll not be so important? I mean, spoiler[isn't even just the main visual a good indication that 3 has to do with the Neo World Program]? I don't know, it might not ask for people to know about the whole thing, sure, but I really don't expect it to be easy to watch without playing 2 based on the little they've shown so far.

Yeah, I was reading Kodaka's interview about it just after posting. (He didn't mention an exact reason for not doing the D2 anime BTW) About 3 and V3, yeah, they announced them together and your reasoning makes sense.
