Not very excited. All the attempts at reboots (helpfully listed in the article) were disasters.

And who is Shiro? The token Japanese guy that dies in episode 5 so that the Princess can pilot the Blue Lion? It's kinda been done...

Get together with Toei and Bandai if you want a proper reboot, WEP.

Mind you that is the reason why Voltron continues to gain western reboots is that Toei is of a "oh, we made that thing too back then?", otherwise Voltron would have been as locked down as Precure until the recent Saban negotiations.

Princess Allura, Will be more realistic and certainly not fainting at every little thing that overwhelms her.
Netflix has completely ruined it for me by getting rid of one of the most memorable scenes from the original Voltron. Evil or Very Mad

It's got somebody that worked on "Avatar: The Last Airbender," "Legend of Korra," and "Justice League: Unlimited" working on it. Why should we be skeptical again?

Well, the most recent show on that list isn't particularly good.

I was cautiously optimistic to begin with. Now I am slightly more so.

Yes it was. Not as good as ATLA, but it had some things going for it.

The only people who care about GoLion seem to be Americans, so I doubt Toei would bother with a remake. For some reason American really clings on to Voltron despite there being hundreds of arguably better mecha anime that has come out since then.

Maybe that's the wrong way to look at it though. Voltron seems to be popular with generic 80s nostalgia fans like Transformers or GI Joe you just considered another 80s cartoon and are not necessarily anime fans so they don't care about mecha anime like Robotech and Power Rangers fans.

Western adaptions of anime are never good, especially ones based in nostalgia. If you want to say Avatar/Korra are American attempt at anime then you can add those to the list as well. The general problem is people who don't understand the medium or genre but try to make something inside or based on the genre

Korra made have sucked, a lot, but it shouldn't be hard to outdo Voltron Force when Korra's creators aren't running the show.

I say go all out. Have JAM Project do insert songs. Make this more akin to a modern remake from Dynamic Planning than the failure VF was.

Well, like all things we have to see how it turns out if it's good or not. But I enjoyed Voltron in my youth and interested how they will remodel the series so it's improved over the original's cut and pasting by WEP.

And glad they revealed that everything isn't going to be solved by forming Voltron. It always annoyed me that this is how the Power Rangers virtually solved every episode, defeating the purpose of having separate mechs.

However, I'm disappointed it's on Netflix. Not subscribed to that service, so hoping it will show up on other media after it premieres.

I can't understand how voltron and thundercats haven't had live action franchises yet. I assume it's mainly because a studio doesn't wanna spend the large amount of money it'd take, once it was like sold or made allowable to start with, but if and when these two ever get made, I guarantee they will be massive success close to the scale of transformers. Especially if they do well critically. I just wish it would happen, I sure it's gonna be at minimum another 10 years before either happens.

I don't really seem to have a problem with this. In the American version of the original, one of them was named Lance and was given a Swedish accent. Yes,it was silly, but I didn't mind. My biggest problem with it is that I don't have a Netflix account,so I can't really see this.

The same reason Japan cares so much about Anne of Green Gables or Alice in Wonderland (I mean seriously, that seems like the only Western book that constantly gets adapted in Japan) even though there's tons of better books - because to them, those represent Western literature. The other better Western books, many of them don't make it to Japan or don't get read by many Japanese.

Just like Voltron to America represent giant robots. The other better mecha series, many of them don't make it to America or don't get watched by many Americans.

To be fair, WEP tried rebooting Voltron twice, and were unsuccessful both times. It's not the only mecha series in town. Voltron: The Third Dimension, even with Tim Curry, bombed the same time that Beast Wars was becoming a cult classic. Voltron Force, meanwhile, had the hilariously bad luck to come on a few months after SyFy aired Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, which is like comparing a plain McDonald's hamburger to filet mignon from a New York steakhouse. Even if the latter was a late night cult hit, it was accepted and the awful VF wasn't.

Besides, Netflix has a decent track record with revivals. Even crap like Fuller House ended up being hugely successful. I am cautiously optimistic that the remake will be better than the original and the failed pseudo sequels.
