Before anyone asks, yes, just like the first CG, CG2 will have its content modified for the US release. (I don't feel like saying the C-word. Cause we all know how that ends up in debates.)

And here's the Q/A about it too. -> http://nisamerica.com/blog/CG2

Either way, it'll also have an LE as well. One of them being the Party Bag edition, which is exclusive to the NISA store.

Honestly, I'm surprised this is coming over here... Of all the possible Vita JRPGs for NISA to decide to release here, I never expected they would bring this one. I'm not totally sure how to feel about it.

I can't argue your decision to avoid using the certain word. It really does lead to some... heavy debates to say the least. That said, I'm not sure why they would even bother with the sequel if they just had to do the same amount of modifications to make it okay to bring over here. Was there really that much fan demand? And if so, why don't we have some of the other Vita JRPGs then?

I doubt it, and I doubt that it sold well for NISA to bring out the sequel with changes. And about the other Vita JRPG's...Sorry, I really don't have an answer for that. >.>

Yeah, I wasn't actually really expecting an answer... That said, it's utterly frustrating that some of the really cool JRPGs don't get localized, while these ones continue to be.

I don't know for the demand, but just so you know, the game in the US sold a bit more than the first two years of the release in Japan. (So far)
And that's only the physical edition.

Even if there's a lot of people boycotting it, it still sells really well. Turns out they are quite vocal about it, but numbers speak more than their voices.

So NISA is selling Criminal Girls 2 sub-only, yet they're modifying the title of its content by forcing more "appropriate" outfits onto the characters and changing or even removing certain parts of dialogue to make it more "appealing" to casual buyers... Their logic is beyond my comprehension... Confused

I loved the first game (It honestly told a very compelling plot and some of the girls pasts were surprisingly tragic. Fan service be damned, it was a good JRPG) and I'm looking forward to the sequel. Kinda annoyed they're doing even more censoring than the original game but whatever, I'll still buy the sequel.

i have mixed feelings about this to be honest. I dont particularly 'like' the original content of criminal girls as the gameplay is fun enough for me just to justify getting the second but i also abhor getting a localized version that changes the feel of the original whatever that version entails. The problem is that I've no alternative of getting this game with the original content without importing a Japanese version and learing Japanese. I've put myself down for a preorder of the LE but closer to the relase date hopefully when they have more info of how they changed it i'll decide whether i want to get it or no. if the changes are pretty drastic im gonna cross my fingers and hope years later when(if) i ever learn Japanese it wont be hard to find a copy

Look, I don't mind companies deciding to change/clean up certain elements of their games to better suit foreign audiences. Localization is always going to be a thing, and I get that the US Playstation digital store doesn't allow AO-rated titles, so this is their only option if they want to sell digital copies over here.

That being said, NIS had to know that with a title like Criminal Girls, people were going to be especially critical of any changes to content, and tried to figure out a more acceptable solution (for instance, offering an AO-rated version as a NIS America online store exclusive).

Games like this aren't my "thing", and the only reason people like me know anything about this franchise is the "controversy" associated with localization. I can't imagine that's great for NIS from a business standpoint.

My view on this is that the vita is a very niche system in the west at this point. The people who own it are the people who would buy these games in their original state. The game is a very niche game already and I don't really see a point in changing it when there's to be a negligible change in sales.

That's how you know censorship apologists won; when people are even afraid to call censorship for what it is.

Sad times.
