Wow, a strong week overall. Glad to see not every week is doom and gloom in the sales department.

These sales are.... decent to good. What's going on? The good stuff is actually selling in porportion to how good it is? What madness is this?

Quite a few good shows (and some less-than-good ones, too) got some nice numbers here.

So like none of the new Spring series will hit 10K for the first volume disc except maybe the upcoming Macross Delta? I thought Kabaneri would do a lot better unless recent episodes soured their interest heavily.

JJBA part 4 doing pretty decent. Hoping for an 8k average, but that may be asking too much...

That's what its's looking like. I wonder if otaku are holding out for summer/fall when more high profile shows will be coming out? (Tourabu, Haikyuu!!, Love Live! Sunshine, and Sound! Euphonium S2 for example.)

I am almost shocked that the first volume of Re:Zero did not even reach 10k; I expected to see between 15-20k with all the supposed hype behind it. I am also a bit surprised by Kabaneri lower-ish numbers.

Yeah, the numbers are pretty disappointing considering the quality and value put into the show. I mean it's not a trainwreck of sales, but hardly as good as I expected.

Well, what a surprise. A laughable show like Kabaneri (that amazing characterization of Munmei!) does almost as good as one of the best parts of JoJo (the best imo), that coincidentally does much less than part 1 & 2' sales...practically mirroring Origin's weaker performance in comparison with Unicorn (the former having a much tighter plot than the latter, but worse CGI indeed)

This says a lot about how different I think from japanese buyers, which makes me wonder why do I even click the news if I tend to get disappointed by it consistenly.

Yet again older anime carries the day even in a heavy new series release week. Still swearing Japan is trying to tell the industry something lately.

Well don't forget Jojo is 3 times as long as has 12 more volumes to go while Kabaneri just has two none of which have event tickets like this one. It's still pretty bad that these marketing schemes even still manage to move above average BD copies for straight mediocrity that arguably just became flat out bad in recent episodes. Boy did they ever botch the Mumei characterization. She is most of what is carrying this show and the episodes on those BD's are what many consider to be her good ones. I'm not expecting much from the latter two volumes now.

As for Japanese buyers I really think it just doesn't come down to a matter of quality where late night TV anime seasonal fare is concerned. The overriding factors always seem to be brand popularity, whatever event tickets and limited edition benefits are in the package and simple franchise decay over time. On rare occasions a second season will sell better but the rule almost always is that regardless of reception shows steadily do worse on disc as their seasons wear on. It's a very rote and almost obligatory way of going about purchasing and supporting the things fans supposedly like.

Re:Zero was far from ranking high enough on amazon to even get close to 15k wk1. Where did the hype come from?

Last year we had 9 series break 10k average first half of the year. This year it will be 1-3. There will be blood on streets.

Quoting myself 2 weeks back. I'm gonna be exactly right.

This is the end of anime industry as we know it.
