The girl idol boom might be over, but the boy idol boom is just beginning.

Get on it. Seriously, they're good. Check out Lagrange Point. They're the best.

The irony is that many fans like anime precisely because it's targeted at a Japanese audience.

In explaining to others why I like anime music, I mention how it is in the interests of the people making the anime and the anime music artists (who can often be seiyuu) to have the best possible songs - it helps both the success of the anime and of the artists. Along with that goes conveying some of the feeling of the anime.

Also, like the anime, the music needs to have, for want of a better term "Japaneseness" about it, although it can take many forms.

If the anime and its music misses out on the delightful quirks that appeal to visitors to Japan, it becomes like a Hollywood blockbuster that just happens to be set in a different location rather than something that understands and conveys what is unique about its setting.

Sometimes the bands or singers own the music copyrights. I wonder how many decided to make the songs "dedicated works". These are works where the owner can put in the public domain or something like it. That is, they may voluntarily relinquish some or all copyrights or make it royalty-free.

The band boom has been long over for female bands, that only applies to male bands. However, it's about time these record label realize that the Western and Chinese markets are ripe for the picking.

thankfully, aniem aimed at chinese won't be as far away from regular anime that anime aimed at americans was. now I wonder if ikkitousen has survived as long because it's popular in china.
