Still baffles me that companies would charge full retail price for a digital title of any sort. Might as well buy the physical copies on Amazon and you'd probably get it for half the price of these digital releases.. I won't judge those that buy though since what you do with your money is your business.

Personally, I stick to digital manga because I have nowhere to store hundreds of physical books. Having everything on my tablet is super convenient and easy to read. I literally won't buy a manga title these days unless I can get it digitally.
I've got my bases covered via Viz's own app and Comixology, but it's neat there's a new storefront for this stuff. |

A-and another service that presents manga with the same prices as retail physical copies. I would rather order a physical copy (and some of them are actually cheaper than digital versions).

Prices seem quite high, especially in AUD. Also don't like the fact that if you terminate your MAL account or the site is hacked/goes bust etc. your titles are lost. No offline reading, outside of MAL viewer, also unappealing.

Manga is one of the things where I really try to buy the series I like instead of just reading them (only) online for free. But I definitely won't pay the same price for a restricted digital copy which I can loose from one day to the next if the service goes offline. Where's the advantage to physical copies, which I can read wherever I want, as long as I want and which I can borrow my friends as well as sell them if I don't want them any more? That's just nuts.

Personally, I really wish they would have done a subscription-based read-all-you-want manga library (similar to the Crunchyroll manga section). MAL already has a subscription infrastructure in place for their "Supporter" ad-free option, so I'd think it'd be relatively easy for them to provide a manga subscription service as well.
There just seem to be plenty of other options for e-book manga purchases for those who want it, but if they offered this big of a selection for a subscription service, I'd definitely pay up to $10 a month for it. Making it a subscription service would also make the "no download/offline option" and "if your account dies, so does your manga" stipulations easier to swallow. |

Blame the publisher, they're the ones that set the price. All the platform can do is persuade them to take part in a sale. The problem with the MAL store is they're using the same model as JManga where you aren't buying an ebook, but rather the right to read an ebook on their site. But you have to trust MAL to keep this service running forever, otherwise you'll eventually lose access to everything you bought. And considering this is done with the same people as Daisuke... At least with Amazon and Comixology you have a file you can strip of DRM if they ever close up shop. |

Boy, they sure make it very unappealing to buy digital manga. I buy a mix of physical and digital, but why would I ever buy digital manga (or anime for that matter), where I can only view it online through their website? You are basically taking a gamble hoping the service doesn't crash and burn, taking all you money with it. Obviously to each their own, but I would say never buy digital manga where you can't make an offline copy. |

Reading the FAQ gives you all you need to know about this and why you shouldn't support it.
Can I download the manga I've purchased? It is not possible to download manga you have purchased. We apologize for the inconvenience. Can I read my purchased manga offline? You will need to use the Viewer function on the Manga Store to read your purchased manga, which requires an internet connection. Offline usage is not possible. And the funniest one mentioned in the FAQ. Is there a limit to the amount of times I can read something I’ve purchased? You can read the items you've purchased as many times as you like. As others have mentioned in this thread, if you plan on buying digital manga, do yourself a favour and just buy it from Amazon and Comixology and strip the DRM from it. |

You can get all of these manga for much cheaper digitally. For example, the latest volume of Fuuka is $10.99 on MAL's store, but $8.79 for Kindle. Viz regularly has sales through their own storefront of their digital manga.
Plus there's the fear of getting banned from MAL for absolutely no reason (which happened to me once - thankfully I was able to get the error corrected), to which they said you can still access your bookshelf, but not purchase new titles. Which means you'd have to split your digital collection on different stores. Sounds like a pain in the ass. |

Bookwalker is still the best digital manga / light novel platform.
Cheap, lots of discounts, and it even gives "coins" on every purchase. Why is Crunchy, Amazon and MAL insisting on digital manga when they are better at other stuff? |

Why'd you ask less? If the service lets you keep an offline copy without expiry, the value you get is basically the same. The difference is, that you cannot sell these to someone else (unless you sell your entire user account). This sort of plays into the hands of the publishers, as they definitely prefer a product that cannot be sold second hand over one that competes with a full price sale. As print version eventually go out print and are hard to find in some cases, digital can be offered without restrictions without a need to reprint until the moment the publishers' licenses expire. |

This is the same site that broke basic tagging functionality for over a year and, a full decade or so after its inception, STILL doesn't have an option to display list titles in English. Sure, let's chuck money at them for a fourth-rate DRM scheme!
