to the people that have read the manga, I've got a question...
is this more focused on sports or some bad yuri tension/moments?

sorry for all the diehard yuri fans, but i just hate it in sports anime

Nope, it's more about actual beach volleyball. And well, there is no yuri moments between the main characters - they're cousins.

I like the character designs. I expected some of them to be muscular but plump is fine too. This is shaping to be like Keijo with beach volleyball or the closest thing to a Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball: The Animation.

Do not worry. Uma Musume is 100% yuri-free. It has a trainer (male) so have fun with it. :^)

In all seriousness, I have not read the manga so I cannot tell myself. We probably do not have a sports + yuri anime/manga (Saki could count), so why are you hating something that does not or barely exists?

Even if you don't like it, if gimmicks like these are enjoyed by the target Japanese demographic, then that's the way the cookie crumbles. We don't get a say in how Japanese anime adaptations should be done.

That is some catchy, tropical-style music. Me likes!

How comparable is it to other popular sports shows like Haikyuu?

I'm in for the boobies. Always liked to watch volleyball, but only when women play it.

Taisho Baseball Girls has het though since two of the girls have male fiances so it is not yuri. Scorching Ping Pong Girls meanwhile has no important male characters and is yuri-friendly.

Softenni isn't yuri. At least 2 of the girls are crushing hard on their male coach.

That's why I always fast-forward at the infamous scene in Top Gun. I like the song though but the imagery sort of gives it an undesirable context.

Um not sure how many anime you've watched yet but if you think them being cousins will stop potential romance, uh, I have some news for you.

Yeah I also get really emotional when Goose dies. Good thing we can agree the volleyball scene is worth every desirable second.

Judging by the story's premise as well as the genre listed on ANN and wikipedia, it seems unlikely it's going to go that route. The only romance we are probably going to see through this is through the potential fans who decide to ship those two characters in fanart/fanfiction.

Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing this one. By the way, the women with the ribbons wrapped on her hair I find to be adorably, but attractively cute. ^///^
