Thank you for the refresher course. I watched Season 1 and Root A over 2 years ago and didn't remember much from the 2nd part. I'd enjoyed Season 2 but never read the manga. I knew changes were made, but these were huge changes. I wonder what went through their minds when makes those changes and omitting certain scenes and characters. I watched the Tokyo Ghoul Re Premiere it seems they are just adapting the manga and forgetting Root A ever happened , but they could retcon the story I suppose.

It's not my fault if Background Clown #5 turns out to be to be the secret evil mastermind behind the entire series.

Well, uh, there's a funny story!

He does appear in the original anime a few times, but I could understand why he wasn't mentioned.

I feel like the most useful guide to this franchise would be "Stay far, far away." The "good" first season was already pretty dire, but Root A was one of the most incompetent pieces of writing I've ever seen. Now watch Toonami pick this up too so that my suffering can continue.

If you're wondering why it was changed... https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/88fddm/im_shuhei_morita_the_director_of_anime_series/dwkcx3d/?st=jfjzxrig&sh=c3cea76f

An AmA with the series Director. This is his reply to why stuff was changed.

So yeah, Ishida had a draft for the season, which couldn't be used (cause of those "higher ups"), Morita tried to implement some of the stuff of said draft, and what you got was what was possible to salvage from it + stuff that entered during the creative process + what the higher ups wanted done + cutting the details so the the episodes didn't become very exposition heavy (which more or less turned the series from a Seinen to a Shounen. For season 1 at least. Season 2 was just EDGY and season 3 seems to be a mix of both as of now)

There's more to it, but this is the bare bones explanation.

but considering that they didn't even get the broadcast rights to RE means that both seasons 1 & 2 didn't do well at all during its AS run! ashame too considering that the block cant depend on DB forever to keep it relevant.

also from the looks of things, this season will be more faithful to the manga which will be a problem considering that in the manga seidou was killed in the final vol but hide is very much alive, but in the anime version its vice versa!

This bunch of asshole Ghouls

lmao i was eating a cookie when i hit the page down button and this was the first line i read.
yeah it hit me by surprise but yes would totally agree.
Regarding the clowns, at the end of the manga we find out there at least spoiler[5] clowns including uta spoiler[Itori, Nico, Roma and Souta] and that spoiler[Souta was responsible for the falling steel beam and rize seemed to recognize him]

Another thing i'd add is that spoiler[Hide's fate was left ambiguous at the end of the manga whereas the anime straight up kills him off]

Finally and now i'm just nitpicking but Kanou only transplanted one organ from rize to create artificial ghouls and that was the kakuhou, a kagune is just the weapon that they may or may not manifest. Its not terribly important but you got it right in the GHOULCABULARY but mixed it up before that.

All in all a great refresher, and readers should avoid this spoiler unless you're quite far in the manga but spoiler[Gabriella do you keep up with the Japanese release? Because that random comment near the end of the article is startlingly accurate.
Because a background Clown does, in fact, turn out to be to be the secret evil mastermind behind the entire series]

Probably the biggest indicator that this is likely ignoring Root A. There's even a Missing Poster shown in the beginning, even though spoiler[Kaneki walked through a bunch of CCG officers with Hide's body, so his death should be public knowledge.]

Ah you're right.
My brain sort of tuned out on that little detail since as a manga reader it didn't seem out of place at all but it makes perfect sense now.
Thanks for pointing that out.
