This is pretty upsetting because the show got a Blu-ray Box release in Japan back in September 2014 and other than the audio & video screwup on episode 40 (which Bandai Visual did do a replacement program with that fixed), the release was pretty good.

Re: The Rose of Versailles BD-Box

Overall, Rose of Versailles looks pretty good. The white balance is quite different from the DVDs, quite a bit cooler, though the white balance on the DVDs was itself shifted towards yellow. There's been some grain reduction - there's still quite a bit of grain - but 35 year old 16mm without grain reduction done is really grainy, more like this. The ED looks too dark, but it gets lighter after a few episodes (the last 2 screenshots).

And tell Udon to release the damn manga already, no excuse anymore when we have Seven Seas ready to release the creator's other work, Claudine, in 3 weeks.

I assume this means no BD's.

We should be fine for a few years. Besides Nozomi's DVD's are very price friendly; I think the other day you could get the whole show for $20 at the Right Stuf. Those who want RoV on disc should get it now because I am not sure any other publisher would want to relicense an almost 40 years old and niche title in the future.

Udon having so many problems I assumed it was something on the JP side. Which it still very well could be but, Claudine out in good order, even released early at TCAF makes Udon look worse and worse.I feel like Rose of Versailles will be the first and last title I buy from them.

That sucks. I haven't had a chance to watch the series and I'm currently on vacation with crappy Internet. Confused

At least I have my Rose of Versailles DVDs *hugs them*. I still wait for the manga D: I'm starting to wonder if the reason they're taking so long is if they're going to include the new chapters that have been released in Japan.

I already have my much-beloved LE boxes, but I do hope that they aren't required to destroy the unsold copies after the license lapses. It was such a fantastic windfall to finally get this series that I hope it can still be picked up as much as possible. Thanks for bringing it to us, Nozomi!

- and I'll join the "come on" Udon bandwagon as well.

Rightstuf has a litebox bundle for the whole series at 50% off ($40 total) at https://www.rightstufanime.com/The-Rose-of-Versailles-DVD-Bundle. However, if you enter promo code ROSEOFVERSAILLES that drops to $13.34.

The page appears to have been (sort of) removed. (When I searched for "Rose of Versailles" the bundle appeared, but without a title/price, and with the stock status as "Out of Stock, Expecting More". Clicking on it took me to an "undefined" page.)

The promo code does work with the standard Liteboxes, making it $20 for the whole series. Doesn't work with the limited editions.

Definitely a shame to see this one destined to go out of print (glad I got my LEs as they came out, worth every penny!) Still, I always appreciate when warning is given out. And hopefully, Discotek could do blurays in the future or something (I'd double dip!)

As for Udon....it's been 3 years now, Udon. And yet, you do things like license and have a vol out for Inifini-T Force in like, 2 months. What was even the point of licensing this if you weren't ever going to be serious about it? I guess all we can really do now is wait for the license with them to expire so that Seven Seas can pick up your damn slack!
