The animation for City- I mean Ste Hunter looks amazing. I hope there is an instrumental version of that song, it sounds pretty good.

I just realised it sounds like a 90s Eurobeat song, and that jingle at the beginning sounded like it was going to be a song by Two-Mix.

I'm seriously pumped for this now. I love how it managed to retain its old school look.

I hope somebody licenses this and maybe even that unreleased movie from 99.

Nicely-done job on updating the character designs for modern times, but still keeping that 80s feel to it (I was a little concerned they were going to go too heavy on being 100% nostalgic). Smart of Sunrise to use Gundam UC's animation character designer for this particular project.

It's Get Wild by TM Network. It was the very first ending song to the television series. There's been several different versions of it by other artists over the years including one by Nami Tamaki.

Seconded.
I hope Discotek or another company can license the entire franchise like ADV did (not including the '99 TV special of course). Some nice SDBD sets of City Hunter would make a lot of fans happy Discotek!

Hopefully if this does well, we'll see all sorts of 80's anime reboots. I'm partial to Captain Harlock and Macross, personally. I'd love to see a remake of the original Macross.

Time to see if modern audiences still find Ryo's antics amusing. Though if Lupin can still get away with it... Still, surprising that it has enough fond remembrance to do a movie after all this time.

No, we don't need every popular classic anime under the sun getting a reboot or sequel. Some things are best left in the past and and their datedness including their animation is part of their charm.

This looks much better than I anticipated. They really managed to nail the feel of the original series. Sunrise is the perfect studio for this job.

As said by pajmo9, it's not but I would have cried just hearing Two-Mix in anime again.

If by "modern audience" you mean the Japanese audience and not the hypocritical West, then that's a non-issue. City Hunter is the mildest of mild compared to what's out there nowadays.

This movie is produced by Aniplex--their logo is shown at the beginning in this trailer and the previous one, so we can consider it already licensed.

I suppose Ryo Saeba wouldn't pass muster with fundamentalist jews or evangelical christians.
The rest of society though won't give a damn and just enjoy City Hunter. He's a cool guy, he likes statuesque women (hence is not into gender fluid theories or other socially inclusive bullshit theories), is just a tiny bit tsundere for Kaori and has great cast of friends. Having Cat's Eyes cameos is also a bonus. Can't wait for the film.

If it sounds familiar, it's because Tetsuya Komura's cadence is synonymous with Japanese 90s music. He produced virtually every major pop act of the decade.

To this day, he's still responsible for the #1 selling anime song of all time (Itoshisa to Setsunasa to Kokoro Tsuyosa to).

I'm worried that Akira Kamiya won't be able to pull off the City Hunter voice with his advanced age. The short snippet we hear in this video sounds pretty good, though. Maybe my concerns for the original cast returning are for naught.
