This explains why this thing has been a giant pain to find; it's even backordered on the net. I guess it did better than people expected.

That should have been expected with the waiting lists for this title starting in September 2005 or earlier.

Maybe they did know what they were doing when they delayed the release date.

It was also ranked #1 on Amazon for a long while, even on Preorder.

No wonder this thing was sold out until just a couple days ago.

I'm "surprised" it wasn't number 1.

For some reason the links don't work, does anyone know what ranked above FFVII AC?

Number 1 was Aeon Flux... must've been a pretty slow week for DVD sales.

It's a poor joke on me that I received my Sept. 17, 2005, pre-order of AC two days AFTER one of my friends did who ordered it about three weeks ago. So unfair! Evil or Very Mad

I'm very happy that it's doing so well, though. It's too bad we can't get a figure on how many people buying the DVD have already watched the movie via fansub vs. know of the DVD only by word of mouth. It'll be interesting to see if people hang onto the DVD or to ditch their copies at yard sales within the next few months. That would depress me.

Don't forget Aeon Flux was a decent hit in the theaters, regardless of how bad it was there are still people who will buy it just because they are fans and now more people will buy it because of Theorn (Sp? sorry) was in it.
Number 2 is impressive, and I am so glad Square would of bankrupted if this failed, considering the disaster of Spirit within. Hopefully this will allow Square to develop a better movie cough FFVI cough, excuse me. But great news all the way around.
Till next time,

Delta Kiral
P.S. I preorder my copy, anyone else?

That's the link for the one on Amazon, like previously said it's been #1 for quite awhile

No it wasn't.

It made back just $25.85 million at the domestic box office on a budget of $55 million (and that's not counting the tens of millions that they spent on prints and advertising). And considering that the rule of thumb is that that kind of movie needs to make back at the box office three times the production budget just to break even (using fuzzy studio math), it was a box office bomb by anyone's measure (*coughcoughandit'sagoodindicatorofhow"well"liveactionEvangelionwouldlikelyperformcough*).

It seems to be doing a bit better on DVD, but, if it's number 1 for last week, overall DVD sales must be substantially down from when Narnia and Kong were new several weeks before.

Because Aeon Flux and Eva are totally comparable.

For the sake of making generalized box-office predictions, they are, in terms of both being cult animated sci-fi properties virtually unknown to the wider general public who aren't already into such things.

It was number 3 in the UKs dvd sales charts, behind Family Guy Season 4 (2nd) and Brokeback Mountain (1st)
