Oh Jesus, an IV drip. It's good that he recovered at least.

I actually wouldn't mind if he retired, seeing as how he's hinted at it. Ultimate is just the perfect cap to his career, and while the series definitely won't be the same without him, it will still live on and be glorious under Nintendo's eye. Besides, if retirement helps his health then he'd better do it.

Yeah I also think he should either retire or work on smaller passion projects that don't have as much riding on them as something of the caliber of Smash.

Oh man, my heart almost stopped for a second there.
I thought that this was an obituary... Shocked
I pray that someone who actually cares about him more than the company sits his butt down and makes him REST.

He deserves both to rest/sleep more, and become Nintendo president in the future. At any case, even if he's one of my favourite developers he should definitely take care of his health more! Sad

Honestly there is nothing to romanticize about this. This is not a noble act. This is a human being working himself to near death because the gaming industry treats its employees like slaves. If the triple A gaming industry is going to survive, the people who work in it need to unionize like yesterday.

Sakurai isn't "Nintendo Game Director". He never worked at the company. He worked in the past on Hal laboratory which is a independent company (and even if it was a subsidiary, he would work on that company, not Nintendo) and for a decade he works as a freelancer on his own company Sora.

The original article even mentions that with him talking about being a freelancer but it was never mentioned here for some reason. This article should really be edited to reflect the reality better.

Uh, Sakurai, I think you might wanna take it down a notch. In fact, someone at Nintendo should probably yank him out of the office for a month

Can someone at Nintendo use some sort of sleeping pill on Sakurai to make him rest because he is crazy right now.

Sakurai, seriously, take a LOOOONG break after you're done with the character packs. S-E-R-I-O-U-S-L-Y you are a godsend to the gaming world and we're really lucky to be given the Smash and Kirby series

Poor Sakurai, he needs to take some time off from working on video games, I know he is the soul of the Smash Bros. and Kirby franchises, but I think the rest of the staff can take care of them with him only giving his opinions.
I don't know a lot about Japanese working practices, but reading this article and the ones about the animation industry makes me think that some change has to occur soon, I don't believe that games and anime are worth risking the health of the people responsible for them.
