Hopefully, it will be over for awhile so that other new anime can get a chance to shine. SAO has been hogging a lot of talent at A-1 and in contract studios. Many productions have suffered as a result.

Maybe it's the fault of the anime adaptation, but Kirito is definitely NOT a gary sue in the novels. He is nowhere near perfect in any way.

Not counting the movie and the spin off show, which the spin off show was done by a different studio, the last season of SAO was six years ago and A-1 Pictures has done over 30 shows in between that time.

Final season?

Do they mean just for the Alicization Arc?

Or for the SAO franchise as a whole?

The final season is for the Alicization arc, not for the SAO anime because the light novel is still on.

Even coming from the anime I think people blow up Kirito's gary sue-ness just because he gets a few overpowered moments. He gets beats up and needs help just as much if not more.
