Yay! The old man hasn't quite retired yet! I still haven't had a chance to watch Gedo Senki so I can't pass judgement on the younger Miyazaki, but I hope he lived up to his father's legend.

Hell Studio Ghibli needs him to make more movie since there really isn't anyone to take over for them. I wonder if we'll see this new Miyazaki before we get to see Gedo Senki Rolling Eyes.

Gedo Senki won the "worst movie of the year" award in Japan... guess that means Ghibli wants the older Miyazaki back.

Can you provide a source for this please? Since the movie seemed to do very well in Japan.

I read it wasn't well received, it was liked but not as much as is usually expected from a Ghibli film. Even the author of Earthsea said she liked it as a movie, but she wasn't altogether happy with it. Her response can be read here.

but wasn't the author made out to be really picky/ didn't want her works created as films in the frist place?

i'll track down that old thread...

I think the author deserves the right to be picky, it is her work and her story, but if she didn't want it to be translated over to film she has the right to say no. I think her reasons and explanations in that link are justified and don't seem overly critical to me.

Earthsea "won" (or "lost" I guess it depends how you look at it) by 31 points. Miyazaki also "won" worst director of the year.

I wonder what Miyazaki's next movie will be. Will it be similar to The Chronicles Of Narnia: Lion, Witch, and The Wardrobe? Because most of his films are similar to Disney.

How so? Other than both using books as inspiration for their movies, the movies made are generally completely different.

I will sell my soul if only his next movie is better than Howls Moving Castle.
