No offense to those who unironically like Eiken, but I expect this to get SO many 1-star reviews...

But...why?

They’re not going to make a sequel, are they?

Eiken may be the least appealing fan service show I've ever seen. Somewhat surprised anyone thought that this was worth licensing. (Perhaps it was part of a package deal?)

I really didn't want to be reminded that Eiken exists, but to each their own, I guess. If nothing else, it's a perfect time capsule of all the worst things about 2000s anime.

This is the kind of show that people who have nostalgia glasses welded on tend not to "remember" when they complain about how anime was so much better back in the day.

Sure isn't available over here. It doesn't even show up on Crunchyroll's search function.

Oh, please, no! Even among trashy ecchi anime this is the bottom of the barrel.

Considering the dub was shunted off to Arvintel of all people, I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

But like I said in a previous thread, there's an audience for everything. (Except musclegirl /ss/, apparently.)

Yup, especially musclegirl paired up with male shrinking violet types.

But yes, this actually aired on Starz at one point.
I have to ask: why couldn’t they pick up something actually decent like The SoulTaker or Shurato?

SoulTaker aired on Tech TV back in the day.

I’m just confused as to why relicense it. Was it ready and they were asking for nothing? Are we going to get a sequel?

Correction, Encore Action! And I'd not like to be reminded that this existed, lol. But yeah, E/A did, at least, air better series on that channel back in the day.

I'd probably hazard a guess that a two-episode OVA that was previously released by the same company in the past & was really damn notable/infamous back then & even today makes perfect sense to re-release, regardless of actual quality. After all, MB obviously knows how the Eiken OVA did back in the day, and they even released 2/3 of the manga, so I'd imagine that it sold well for them. Also, MB is in the midst of a focus on re-licensing & re-releasing stuff it had done in the past, so the priority will be more on stuff they know the actual old sales numbers for.

Don't get me wrong, because I'd love to see a new release for SoulTaker, & a first time release for Shurato. Also, while I did enjoy the Eiken manga I did not like the OVA at all; I felt that the OVA took things too straight, while the manga felt like an absurd parody. However, it makes perfect sense for MB to re-release Eiken & put it on Crunchyroll, and the fact that people are reacting to it like this means that they chose well, because now word is obviously going out about it, which means that people will check it out.

It’s a complete mystery to me as to why Encore thought it would be a good idea to air Eiken of all things.

It was the 2000's almost everything got licensed and half of that aired on TV regardless of the overall quality.
