While I didn't enjoy this anime too much, I'm glad we're seeing this trend of shows getting sequels and second seasons. The model of "anime as an advertisement" was pretty flawed in my opinion and it's great that the industry seems to be moving on from it

I'm a bit behind on the anime but haven't been overly impressed by it so far, so I was planning to read the manga if this didn't get an immediate S2 announcement. Turns out that's exactly what happened.

Well, you have to make money somehow. The general models have been
    Advertisement for the original media that continues the story
    Advertisement for the toys (Gundam, also lots of magical girl shows)
    Attract high ratings to sell regular TV advertisements
    Attract high ratings as a exclusive to sell satellite / streaming subscriptions
    Advertisement for the home video release
    Convince NHK that you're worth government money (ratings helps)


They all can have some issues. The first one often means you don't get a whole story, or you get a sudden or anime original ending. Toys can affect the stories (Kodocha is notable that way), and also affects the target audience (more kids), which affects the stories as well. Going for toys as well as regular TV commercials also makes it more likely to be aimed at normal people in normal hours, which also decreases continuity and means more recaps. Being an exclusive to sell subscriptions can mean lots of subscriptions to get access to every show (or canceling and cycling through options, more viable now.) The last one creates the most hardcore fan friendly works, but it's decreasing in importance as people don't buy home media as much.

I'm fully aware that you need to make money, and I would never encourage a business to double down on a losing property. The issue is when the powers that be try to target one revenue stream instead of all of them. The recent Kodansha stock report was pretty telling in how the shift is occurring, Instead of looking at anime as an ad to sell one thing, they're shifting towards viewing the "total IP" as having value. While I can't get into anyone's heads, I would imagine Marvel and it's success helped cause a shift in how these properties are viewed. Why just make money off one source when you can have merch, and the show, and the comics and the games and all of them can make money? Placing value on the total IP instead of just the light novels is the reason why the Isekai Quartet properties are getting all the sequels it's now getting. There's also the fact that an adaptation in and of itself can have value and be profitable separate from the source it was adapted from; which is a very western way of doing things.

Nice. The penultimate arc was kind of a mess, but there was enough in what came before it -- and in the little bit after -- that I'm still happy to see TYE get a second season.

Not sure how to feel. The series has a lot of potential and a lot of good things in it, it just feels squandered. It'll help if the knockers appear less frequently I'm the second season and onward, leaving an opening fir more interest stories since the knockers tend to take away from that in my opinion

I've been lazing on it; I think I'm on episode 13? Each week I read the front page review snippet mentioning really poor production quality the last 5 or so weeks, and it's really diminishing my enthusiasm. Confused

One significant issue with this adaptation is that it covers just over half of the first act of the story. If there wasn't going to be second season, I would have been very disappointed because some things that were set up in the island arc would have been left unexplored. And that would have been tragic.

Too bad it will take a whole year for the show to return. It would be nice if that results in a higher quality in the adaptation though. The upcoming arcs are really good, but there is an arc that will require good scripting and animation to hold up.

Great news. This isn't normally my kind of series, but I really loved it. It helps that it's about as original as anything can be these days, and the writing had a consistently high quality (for me, at least) that a lot of series struggle to maintain.
