The only character shown that is the protagonist of his/her respective series is Ranma Saotome. Lum, Kyoko Otonashi, Inuyasha & Rinne Rokudo are perhaps the most iconic characters from their respective series, but they are each the primary love interests of their series' protagonist: Ataru Moroboshi of Urusei Yatsura; Yusaku Godai of Maison Ikkoku; Kagome Higurashi of Inuyasha; and Sakura Mamiya of RIN-NE. Would have overlooked this if it was only wrong in one or two cases, but the statement is inaccurate for the majority of the characters shown and can be proven inaccurate by checking the descriptions of each manga listed on their respective AnimeNewsNetwork pages.
