I find it interesting that you find this to look old. If anything Strong World is the crossing point between old and new One Piece. The Anime changed visually slowly over the years, so their is no specific episode that shows a sharp contrast. With the Movies, they looked like a feature length versions of the TV show as it was at the time(with the exception of 6) with better animation. Strong World looks more like how the TV show looks now, than it did the show at the time.

In a way the Movies that followed, have made Strong World feel less unique than it did at the time. It was written by Eiichiro Oda, and I'm sure is actually part of the series canon. And it has the look and feel of an Anime Movie, rather than a companion piece to a TV show. All the Movies that have followed(aside from that short 3D one), have that same look and feel.Strong World now feels sort of safe and formulaic.

I wholeheartedly disagree. Film Z doesn't look like Strong World at all, it has more of a cinematic feel than its predecessor. And despite Sato being the character designer of both movies, Film Z a lot of times looks like Kagami/Umakoshi thanks to their heavy involvement. Not to mention the fact that the production values took a step further, of all recent movies Film Z still has the most impressive incorporation of CGI and 3D backgrounds.

Wait, wait. The One Piece TV anime is good now for Wano? I dropped it back in the middle of Dressrosa because the 1-1.5 chapters per episode pace was just brutal.

While the animation has improved, the pacing is still galcial. Most things still take forever, its just they look pretty when doing it.

I did the same, only a little later. What made it worse was the Manga was also kind of slow at one point as well. So one episode had the smallest amount of plot progression.

I really enjoyed this in theaters — Luffy vs. the animals and the storm on Shiki are iconic scenes. The dub, however, feels dated — especially in comparison to the Stampede dub. Shiki has a strange accent and the actors are all trying to understand a feel for their characters (especially later crewmates like Brook and Franky)

At least the anime makes up for some of the slowness by expanding upon the source material. Things are often implied, skipped or off screened in the manga due to Oda's schedule, health and the plan of wanting to end the series sooner than later. The anime fills in those gaps and gives more context where needed.

I know it's because of the Fathom screening but it's funny seeing a new review for this get posted so many years after the fact. Very Happy Strong World was a blast, and it really marked the beginning of One Piece movies as big must-see events, with Film Z and Film Gold being in a similar vein and Stampede acting as something of a love letter to the anime adaptation as a whole. The only noteworthy one before it was movie 6, because of Hosoda's unique style and how much of a tonal departure it was from most of the rest of the franchise. One thing that didn't hurt Strong World were those Straw Hat outfits near the end, because damn if they didn't just ooze cool. I'm sure they sold buckets of those figurines.

Oh yeah, it looks spectacular now. And while the raw pacing is probably about the same as it was in the anime's low points (I don't read the manga myself so I'm just going on what I've heard), it feels far snappier and less draggy. The Wano flashback in particular was hands-down one of my favorite sections of the entire series.

Only for animation but that's because they switched main staff again with the guy who directed Film Z and improved Dragon Ball Super (Tournament of Power arc & Broly) taking over. They also added the same video filter that was used for that portion of Super so there are differences, even in flashback scenes, compared to the rest of the show before.
