I was just wondering about the police's response to the Yakuza after watching Police in a Pod.

Lucky for the protagonist that he found the one other American girl in Tokyo and she knows a Yakuza...

I've heard conflicting thoughts about whether the novel is even remotely true, but I personally just read it as a compelling Yakuza story. Interested to see if the miniseries can adapt it properly.

Even though his initial story about Tadamasa Goto and the FBI and the transplant and the death threat ran in the opinion section, memory serves, The Washington Post fact-checked it vigorously. One presumes they also ran it by legal. He only started writing/talking about it at length once Goto was on the outs in Yamaguchi-gumi.

Anyway, I don't have HBO Max. If this series starred anybody else besides Ansel Elgort, I might have been in a hurry to sign up and watch this. Instead, meh.

While it looks great and with Ken W in it and acknowledging that Tokyo Vice has been mentioned before here, how is any of this and that Anime News?

It had to be Ansel Elgort. Michael Mann is doing the pilot. Likely why the show looks so blue.

Nice. I like a lot of Mann's work (Heat, Miami Vice, Collateral). Excited to see how this turns out.
