I think it was always going to be a stretch for them to release it by the end of the year when we haven't seen any footage of the movie yet.

As long as the movie is eventually good; Nintendo, Universal and Illumination can take all the time they need.

I had a feeling the movie was going to get delayed since a trailer hasn't come out yet, which isn't a bad thing. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that we'll receive the first trailer sometime either this summer or fall.

We haven’t seen so much as a production still much less a trailer. A delay was inevitable.

I think Pratt will do an acceptable performance as Mario, at least he has some experience working in animated movies, I'm more worried about Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. I'm also interested in who is going to voice the characters in Neutral Spanish (I'll have to watch that version since animated kids movies are never shown with subtitles here) and in Japanese (Mario was voiced by Toru Furuya in some early Nintendo commercials but I doubt he's going to voice him)
Speaking about the delay, I was already under the impression that they'd delay it since they haven't shown any trailers or art yet, I think movies studios aren't that convinced that the movie is industry is fully recovered yet, Illumination already had two films this year (Sing 2 premiered this year in some territories and Minions 2 was delayed for 2 years) and James Cameron's Avatar 2 is set to be released in December.

I agree. The Japanese dub will most likely have a different cast instead of bringing back the ones from the older Nintendo commercials.

I guess it's because those movies are aimed at a young audience, most of them can't even read and I don't think they care it's not the original language. The only animated feature I remember, that wasn't an anime, that had some subtitled showings was Spider-Verse, and even then the movie was rated the equivalent of a PG-13.
Furthermore, studios like Disney and Universal usually cast celebrities from all Latin America for the dubs of their animated features, for example, in Disney's Hercules the main character was voiced in Neutral Spanish by Ricky Martin (with negative results, I might add). Lately Disney has reduced the number of celebrity voices, but on the other hand Universal/Illumination's movies are filled with celebrity voice actors, and nowadays they're not limited to just actors and singers, studios are hiring influencers as voice actors (in the recent live-action film, Sonic is voiced by a Youtuber with 38 million subcribers). So it wouldn't surprise me if Mario will be voiced in Spanish by a comedian, Luigi by a YouTuber or Peach by a popular singer.

There are some people saying that Nintendo should is trying to correct some aspects of the movie or that they're trying to copy some of the things that worked for Sonic, but those people know nothing about how movies work, the movie has been in development for at least 4 years. The original release date was a week after Avatar: The Way of Water, and while most people say nobody cares about, it's the sequel to the highest-grossing film of all time, not to mentioned Shazam 2 is coming at the end of December as well. Also, Universal/Illuminaion still has Minions 2 as their tentpole animated feature for the year, and they delayed it for 2 years.
