It's very sad news to hear that Sunrise, one of the last studios left that does hand-drawn Mechs on a regular basis, is doing this. Will this studio be in charge of modelling and rendering 3D Mechs for them?

Aikatsu styled Idolm@ster? I'm on the fence if I really want that or not.

I would also be more worried about CG on characters and not the mecha (even though Sunrise has done a good job with CG on characters in recent years), that's where the issues start showing up.

Kind of makes sense considering one of the last things Anima has done lead production for is the Tales of Luminaria anime

Sunrise still exists? I thought they changed its name to Bandai Namco Pictures, Tiger & Bunny 2 didn't mention Sunrise as far as I know, maybe I'm misremembering. But when I saw Gundam The With of Mercury, Sunrise's name was on the main logo.
But yeah, it seems that Sunrise is one of the few studios that still animates their mecha in 2D, however I noticed a lot of CG mechs in Mercury, but they looked fine. Still, they don't make as many mech shows as they did in the 80s and 90s, it seems Gundam, the ocassional Code Geass project and some experiments like AMAIM are the only things they do. I would love to see a Super Robot show like GaoGaiGar made by them again.

Not really just for Gundam, considering they got their own internal studios for this. Bamco has more than just Sunrise (BN Pictures, whatever exists of Xebec and named Sunrise Beyond, Actas), so it's just the expansion of the current business.

BNP is separate from Sunrise studio that was based on the bunch of their assets - but no, Sunrise still effectively exists as a corporate name (they are operating as Bandai Namco Filmworks), except they are way far from their prime.

Sunrise has had CG divisions for decades.

BNP was spunoff and OWNED by Sunrise

The part of Xebec not retained by Production I.G, currently Sunrise Beyond, well, it's in the name.

On paper, Sunrise absorbed Bandai Namco Arts (Bandai Visual), although they were the much older (and legendary) company of the two.

Bandai (Namco) 100% ruined Sunrise, but that may just be my nostalgia talking.

Damn... Just randomly thinking back, times have really changed. Most of my favorite studios either died, became a shell of themselves or became completely disgraced... (GAiNAX, what the hell man?!)

Madhouse
AIC
Gonzo
I.G (still GOATed)
Xebec
Beetrain
so many more
