This is a big blow (even when it was expected since she's 96). Not even in animation and games, but real life acting. Murder, She Wrote was huge for over a decade. Iconic, if you will. If you recognized Angela, it's because you watched Murder, She Wrote or going further back, The Manchurian Candidate. Thank you for your impact in the world, Angela. Thank you for contributing to KH. You will be missed.

RIP

Murder, She wrote:

In television, she is perhaps best known for the long-running Murder, She Wrote series, where she starred as the mystery novelist-turned-detective Jessica Fletcher. In film, some of her more popular roles include Mrs. Iselin in The Manchurian Candidate and the aforementioned Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast, where she also sang the film's Oscar-winning titular theme song and the song "Be Our Guest."

Now well-known for her older roles, ironically she's been typecast early on into playing older characters than her age - which upset her immensely and led her to quit Hollywood for awhile. Even her fans then thought she was in her 40s when she was just in her 20s

Also ironically, the role she's most famous for Murder, She Wrote - is the one role she took for the money, as she was having financial troubles at the time

Yet her only animated (in this case, Annie) nomination was not for Beauty and the Beast but for her role in Anastasia

A lady of many contradictions, but she played them for the best

RIP Dame Lansbury

She also played Sister Theresa / the narrator in another America-Japan co production, the stop motion special - The First Christmas: The Story of the First Christmas Snow (1975).

Shocked Oh I wasn't aware of this, thanks for the info.

Also, when I heard about her passing yesterday, it really hurt me a bit because she was the voice of Mrs. Potts in Disney's Beauty and The Beast. The 1991 animated film happened to be one of my favorite childhood Disney animated films I watched when I was very young (that, and along with Aladdin, & The Lion King). She will be indeed missed even amongst Disney fans.

This is very sad. One of Britain's great gifts to America has left us. If I remember right, she's originally from England. Her grandfather was a well-known politician there, and for years in her native land, his fame outshone hers. Ms. Lansbury was the sort of actress that had a dignity and sophistication that's rarely seen these days and might not be seen again for many years to come.
While she's most famous as Jessica Fletcher from "Murder,She Wrote,"she did other roles as well. As was previously mentioned, she played the creepy Mommy Fortuna from "The Last Unicorn" and earlier in "The Manchurian Candidate." She was also in stuff like "Anastasia" and "Beauty and the Beast." To me,it's a shame she never appeared in something like"Downton Abbey,"where she could have played a duchess or something like that. She would have fit in real well there.

It's also a shame she never did a Studio Ghibli dub. She would have given whatever role she was given great class and dignity. She may have born in Britain, but she became an American citizen and she was one of the last links to Hollywood's golden age. Such a great and sad loss all around.

RIP Ms. Lansbury. You'll be missed greatly. Sad

She grew to love the role of Jessica Fletcher, she even stated she was ready for another installment of Murder She Wrote if they called her.
