Animate Ikebukuro

Wonder just how bigger it is than the one in Akihabara. Would it be worth diverting some time in Akihabara towards visiting Ikebukuro.

Well, the Ikebukuro one is the main branch, so it's already huge at 8 stories, and now it's gonna be over twice as big.

What is your sub-interest as far as anime/otaku stuff goes? Ikebukuro is the only place you should be going if you're interested in traditionally 'girlier' stuff (sports anime, BL and BL-adjacent series, doujinshi, cosplay, boy bands, K-pop, something like 10 different branches of kbooks all within a 5-minute walk, etc.).

If you're into more generic stuff, Ikebukuro is still a very good place to find original and second-hand goods, but Akiba might have a wider range of general anime goods.

I went to the store back in 2013, back then it mostly focused on cosplay but I did buy something (as Madoka Magica Charlotte hat, still have it too). If ever I go again I might have to go again...

Well, since most anime/manga stores in Akihabara are multi level stores, a lot depends on how large each floor actually is. You can have lots of floors, but find that each floor is small or narrow, or both.

I was just wondering if the Ikebukuro store is significantly larger to make it desireable to take time from shopping and grazing in Akihabara. When visiting Japan for work, I usually only get a day to be able to visit Tokyo by train. So I usually spend all my time in Akihabara and even then I find it hard to visit all the stores I want. Locals and others who have time to spend mulitple days in Tokyo at a time have the freedom to visit each branch.
