Alas, modern shoujo and the like always gets the short end of the stick.

I miss long running adaptations like Candy Candy, Sailor Moon, etc

it could have been worse honestly and it doesn't look that bad.

I was wondering if we would see animated footage for these films before the one-month mark.

The animation is serviceable, but it isn't great. Otome game fans are not unfamiliar with otome game adaptations getting weak animation, but it's still a letdown to a lot of us to see the characters turn out like this. Visual novels are also very tricky to restructure into a film or 12-episode plot traveling on a single straightforward path. Instead of the true route like a lot of us expected, these films are meant to be a midquel of sorts. Although relieved the crew isn't jamming one roughly 50-hour otome game into two regular-length films, I hope the original plot they're going for is structurally solid and entertaining.

Still, I'm excited for these films. It's been a long while since we've seen these characters in action, and it's not often we get to see visual novel sprites come to life and move like this, good animation quality or not. We've even been waiting for this animated project since it was announced in 2019, and we're ready to finally watch it. For now, I hope it's a good experience for fellow fans in Japan, and I would love if these films could get subbed and brought over to a streaming service for us outside of Japan after their theatrical runs.

It looks alright, though that might be me as an otome fan having lowered my standards for when it comes to any official anime adaptations. I enjoyed Collar x Malice when it came out, here's hoping the original story holds up on its own.
