The announcement noted the main staff member who passed away was "indispensable" to the production, so the production committee and the anime's studio Brains Base decided on the delay after some discussion.

I noticed that the animation director has suddenly changed mid-season. I'm assuming that's the person who has died. It's bizarre that they still haven't announced it.

I thought episode 7 looked janky, but it looks like the staffer who passed away was not an animation director, but art director Toru Koga. Starting with the 2023 reruns of episodes 1-6, Satoshi Fujimoto started sharing the art director credit with Koga.
