I am so happy that this is getting a reboot with the original cast returning and Kevin penkin doing the OSTs. Hope they use the original Opening Tabi no Tochū. One of my favourites... Read the whole LNs and the started the sequel.

Did the OG anime not follow the book's story? I would've preferred them to have continued the OG anime vs. remaking it given we dunno if they'll even finish it this time... Like sure the visuals were starting to get outdated, and sure these visuals seem to be better but, what is the point in remaking it vs. continuing the OG anime especially when its likely it won't get the Fruits Basket treatment... The only thing I can think of is the OG anime might not have followed the book's script hence this remake, which if so fair point and I'm more ok with this reboot, but, that's IF thats the case.

IMO, it was a good decision that this is a remake, and not a sequel to 2000s series.
Myself, I do intend to rewatch the original first season, and watch season 2, as well as those few OVA from 2000s, before jumping into this remake, but... I mean, I personally never watch remakes, or reboots without seeing original stuff first (completionist person, I guess), but most people won't go out of their way to watch something that is now around 15 years old. Other than that, how do I say this, I think it is a good thing that this adaptation will start from the beginning, because it will allow it to be more of its own thing, and not "just a sequel" to for many people iconic series. Eventually (hopefully), this remake will go beyond what 2000s series adapted, and, I believe one day most people will be glad that, well, this wasn't just a season 3. |

Everything in the video clip points to a reboot, as those are slightly tweaked versions of scenes from throughout the first episode of the 2008 anime (and slightly tweaked character designs). While I'm thrilled to see more S&W animation, I question the need to redo content that's already been animated. The first two novels - which, along with one short story, were the source material for the 2008 series - were adapted both very well and very accurately; the only significant deviation was the inclusion of a new character (Chloe) who replaced the role of a minor character in the novel, and honestly, I felt the anime was better for that change. (Redoing the second season would be more warranted, since its animation suffered and it did skip one entire novel.) Are they, perhaps, intending to pace it faster so it can cover more material? If so, I'm really curious to see how that will work, since this is not a fast-paced story. Also, while this may seem odd to say given his reputation, Kevin Penkin has his work cut out for him on this project. Yuuji Yoshino's scores for the 2008 and 2009 series were so amazingly perfect that I tracked down and bought the OST. Based on the video clip, it looks like he's going with a similar sound, which is good. Replacing the OPs and EDs will also be a challenge, since those were also outstanding. Still, the animation at least looks like it will be a bit of an upgrade, and the lead VAs are back, so this will be on my Most Anticipated list for '24. Spice and Wolf does NOT need a reboot! It needs a continuation. The first 2 seasons were near perfect.

But the actual reason why the series goes reboot is mostly from the commercial point of view - considering the first season was released 15 years ago, and certainly not a lot of series can hold that much appreciation for continuing it after so many years even if they are financially successful in the past - and if we at least can get the story continued even after, I can take a bite. |

It's nice to get a date but while It's been a long time since i saw the animes and read the adapted volume, i can't remember much changes , so i'm also wondering why bothering why the remake when the OG was so well made, let's just hope the redundant segment ( if they intend to do a full adaptation which i'm really hoping for ) won't feel inferior to the precedent version like most remake tend to be.

It's sad that people won't give a chance to watch Code Geass, Monster, Death Note, Gurren Lagan...etc Maybe it's an American thing? because where I'm from, anime has been mainstream since the 80s, and we constantly watch and enjoy new discoveries from the 80s and earlier. |

Yeah the only reason to fully remake this from the start is if they actually do plan to adapt the entirety of the story this time. Similiar to how Fruits Basket went as it would somewhat pointless to remake the entire story again and than not go past were the first adaptation went in the first place. I think it is possible that it will be fully animated this time as Spice and Wolf made a real big impact when it aired and is universally loved by pretty much everyone who has seen it minus a few who complain about the slow pace and complicated economics but that is a real minority even within the general community. Oh if only the original dub cast would comeback for this at least Micheal Tantum for Lawerence and Brina Palencia for Holo cause honestly those two i would argue voiced them much better than the jp cast(no disrespect to them either they are good). It is one of the few rare titles i prefer dub over sub especially during the period of long explanations as i rather listen than follow the subtitles and animation at the same time. |

It feels like a reboot, but I would have preferred a third season (and maybe a fourth) that animated the remaining stories, that had not been covered 14 years ago.
