That should be fun, but not quite the Hanako-kun sequel I was hoping for...

It's not Lerche *and* Studio Hibari, Lerche is just a brand name of Hibari's--theyre the exact same company.

I was hoping for a season 2. Oh well.

A lot of people seem to think the "restart" they announced was a confirmation of a remake rather than intentionally vague phrasing pointing to this project. I really hope that's not true! Yes, the animation is limited, but the director Ando has a distinctive style that makes it work, and the color, music, and voice acting come together with the manga's art style and writing to make a perfect creepy-cute atmosphere. I can't imagine a new anime doing better by it.

Not to mention that, from what I recall, the anime didn't skip anything important (if anything at all) in the chapters that were adapted. There is no need to start over; the restart is probably referring to them needing to rebuild the production from scratch since the second season wasn't greenlit immediately.

I mean they sorta did, a ton of stuff was rushed to try and fit 5 O'clock Bookstacks into a single episode and entire arcs were skipped. I don't think they're gonna reboot the whole thing and will probably just go back and do the skipped stuff, but it was hardly a perfect adaptation.

Oh yeah, I do vaguely remember something like that. In that case, it will probably end up being similar to Shadows House S2, where they'll change things around a bit to add crucial things that were skipped due to only expecting one season.

I really hope this will lead to an announcement of a season 2 eventually. There's a lot from the manga that I'd love to see with the level of color that the anime brought to things.

They'd have to cover some stuff they skipped before it could move ahead from where season 1 ended, but I'd rather see that out of order than have them redo a bunch of adaptations that were mostly fine and aesthetically fun. (Not that I think a reboot is actually at all likely.)

Unfortunately, having a satisfying endpoint pretty much required them to skip the clock keepers, but it wouldn't be hard to move that arc to the start of a second season. The condensing of other scenes was a little annoying, but sometimes a given manga series just doesn't perfectly match up with the timing of a twelve-episode anime, and a complete remake would have the same problem. Besides, why would they remake a show that isn't even that old?

I don’t get it. Are these short episodes the “new anime project” they teased? If so, that sucks. I want the next part of this story, not some spin off little time wasters.

What are they doing with this IP?

The anime's website already lists this as being the "first" entry, so there are more things to come.

The Hanako-kun manga is a best seller so they're clearly going to make another full season at some point and these shorts are just to tide fans over till it comes out.
