One thing I'm really enjoying about the manga are the little prose side-stories that the light novel author writes for every volume, each focusing on different characters and showing just a little more of what they're like. Definitely give the manga a shot, not just for adapting the light novel but for the short stories, too.

It's really one of those stories where all three versions are worth reading/watching. They all bring something a little different (or extra!) to the table.
