Nice to have the show back. They're leaning heavy on the SoL comedy vibes but those are also very true to SpyxFamily and it just plays into the casts' strengths well and showing off more of Yuri as a serious character (still a raging siscon though).

I love slice of life content, and this is peak slice of life. No high stakes drama or tensions but we get character moments and background plot progression. To me, this is the content that makes characters feel like people

I hope we return to the main "mission" as soon as we can or, even better, we go to a Yor-focused arc that's been needed for so long now. I still enjoyed these episodes though, can't complain about more Yuri as he's always super funny, and that Damian trip went so hard for no reason with even an insert song.

Without being especially spoiler-y, there's a reason the promotional materials have been focusing on a big call Yor gets. This season is her arc.

Not gonna lie, I never like how the show manages Yor and Yuri, they are kinda basic and surrounded by way more complex and interesting characters.

I mean, heavens, the damn dog has a better backstory than them, you can literally delete their backstory and they could keep the same dynamic and personality and you wouldn't feel it at all.

And this is super important because the series uses backstories to build its characters, so Yuri and Yor are made as orphans who have took care of each other since childhood, but thats all.

It would be nice if there was some deeper level there, like, Yor having to make an smiling face for her brother to the point that her mask became her real face and now she doesn't know which one its real.

Or, maybe their parents could have been killed by some rich guy wich made Yuri a socialist fanatic which would make his actions in the last episode more understandable.

My only problem is that it will take too long to understand exactly what's wrong with Ostania-pseudo DDR. While the real one was a one-party-dictatorship (sort of), there was a lack of consumer goods, almost everything was ruled from the State and the Secret Police was much less nice than Yuri, in Ostania you have political parties with different ideas, some of them not approved, ultra-expensive sweets, privately own shops, supermarkets full of stuff...

Also, the first episode, being from the first volumes, feel a little off with the story. That was Frankies' first babysittter night and Yor & Loid first "date", that's why the second one -and why Bond wasn't there-, after the Death Tennis Games & Fiona, was a little more easier for everyone.

Yuri's episode gives him some depth beyond his "YorYorYorYorYorYorYorYorYor" attitude. Also, his Siscon made us forget that he can be very nasty if needed.
The real, real, crime is that the anime translation did not keep the "Chihuahua girl" joke.

Oh yeah I've been told that the date episode was based on a chapter that was published somewhere else which might explain why it didn't have Yor in her usual self of shyness and instead annoyed with the bullet.

Damian's episode was pretty good as it was a good distraction for how horrible was his father in season 1's finale. Can't say the same about Bond, but I wonder if Bondman had a deeper joke than just Anya trying to study adult behaviour.

I know it's a comedy but any attempt to Yuri more likable goes to the toilet when bringing back his incest. I wonder if the same will happen with Lloyd's partner. Feels like Ranma 1/2 all over again.

It was an extra chapter that was published in Jump+ like any other chapter. It was released with volume 3 though, so it is chronologically out of order (the anime is currently in volume 7). Not that it really matters, as her personality was mostly stagnant during this period of time and the chapter doesn't contradict anything from the tennis arc. Regardless, Yor's change in personality is explained by the bullet wound being a major, painful distraction (followed by relief after eating the blowfish).

So far I cant decide if im enjoying the new season or not, I enjoyed the date episode but thought episode 2 was just ok, episode 3 was also pretty good. Maybe if i had read the manga I may be into this season a little more than I am at the moment.

It's kind of a thing where I'm mostly enjoying the episodes but not really enjoying the season, if that makes sense? The first episode was fun but very slight, felt like a short, nothing story that they padded out to reach 22 minutes that while entertaining didn't really start the season off with a bang, then there are two episodes after it both of which barely even have the main cast in them. Add to that finding Yuri to be far and away the worst part of the show and I'm kind of having trouble getting invested in things as a whole right now.

In general I am definitely getting the vibe that this season's probably going to have a lot of original material or ballooning out stuff that was short in the source material into something meatier to prolong the length of time the show can run before catching up to the manga. Which I'm fine with in theory, not read the manga anyway so no real opinions on changes or anything, but it does kind of feel like the show's just kind of aimless right now.

The manga is generally structured to have a major plot arc followed by several chapters that focus on the characters rather than any larger plot. It works well for a biweekly manga, but as this season has proved so far, it can make the anime feel a bit aimless when those chapters are adapted together like this.

I recall that the major arc that should be the focus of this season is rather long though, so this will change soon.

I felt a fair bit of this last season as well, personally. I'm still enjoying the ride, but a return to a major arc focused directly on the Forgers (ideally, Yor, given she's gotten less focused development than the other three), as I think/hope Blah is hinting at, would be really welcome. Last season and the start of this one so far are firmly in the "polished, funny, cute, and fun, but not living up to the season 1 hype" bucket for me, right now.

It was nice to see the kids together again so we could get some much needed content with Anya, Becky, and Damian. Damian is still as much of a sweet tsundere as ever and Endo does a greate job writing kid hijinks.

Yor and Franky was an unexpected but fun team-up, though it's merely the prelude to the great Yor arc!

I just adore Second Son. I mean, I love all of the characters, but lately he's been rising toward the top.
