I'm glad I managed to get the FUNi Escaflowne DVD/BR combos when I did. The remaster for that series is excellent.

For me some of the big losses not mentioned are Wolf’s Rain (the last four OVA episodes which make up the finale of the series are still not up on CR), The Tatami Galaxy, Adolescence of Utena, Silver Spoon, and the dubs for Gurren Lagann and Steins;Gate.
Some of these seem due to waiting out contracts and being able to renew them because the current language does not account for a complete company shift like this (aka why the One Piece dub took forever to stream on CR), but I have my doubts with the older or more niche titles. I could unfortunately see CR just letting them expire. |

Seconded for Silver Spoon, one of the great slice of life shows.
More importantly, take the opportunity to watch the final three episodes (#13-15) of Bakemonogatari, which were never ported over to Crunchyroll when the rest of the episodes were over a year ago. I now despair of these pivotal chapters ever being made available there, meaning there will be no legal way to watch them (I wish the series was on Amazon again) unless you plunk down like $150 for the Aniplex season set, assuming that's still available. Needless to say, Bakemonogatari kicks off the entire Monogatari franchise, and it's simply terrible that Crunchyroll apparently doesn't care if the entire season isn't available. |

I didn’t even realize Slayers isn’t on Crunchyroll. That show is great!
And yeah, the third WIXOSS season is really important. |

Many of those series were under other distributors over here, so they were never in CR in Spain's Spanish (afaik), not to talk Funimation.

OK, here are some that would suck to see "gone" from legal streaming: Astro Boy (i.e. the original TV anime itself) Doamygar-D (a very fun, & short, homage/parody to 70s super robot anime, only with a confectionaries theme) FLCL Galaxy Angel (the entire series, including the not-as-liked Rune, which sadly never got a physical re-release from Nozomi) Ikki Tousen (It's managed to continually stick around for this long, you know?) Ninja Slayer From Animation Outlaw Star Sengoku BASARA: Samurai Kings Slayers Vision of EscaFlowne Yatterman Night (glad to see this series actually get a shout out in the article itself) |

It seems the big brick Slayers DVD box set that was in print for years is finally scarce, so that's another reason to watch the 90s Slayers now. Funimation's site does have all three shows, just listed as seasons for Slayers.
Slayers Try (the third series) is good and worth the time to watch. I'll never understand the people who act like it doesn't exist or people shouldn't even (ahem) try it. |

Slayers is one of those anime that's licensed out to companies by Enoki Films, which pretty much none of the companies here really like to work with, if it can be helped. Discotek was the last one to really work with Enoki extensively, but even that's since come to a sudden & definitive end. I don't think Crunchyroll has ever directly licensed anything from Enoki (anything of Enoki's that is streaming on CR came from another company's license), so who knows if it'll even bother to renew the license to Slayers once it expires. |

OK, I gotta get in a word for Mekakucity Actors (no space before "city"), which is still trapped on Funimation. Aside from being the head-tiltiest Shaft thing to ever Shaft, I think it's hilarious that the show's website is still up, and of four sites listed on the watch here page, two no longer exist (Daisuki and the Aniplex Channel), and the other two no longer have the show (Crunchyroll and Hulu). Yet unlisted Funimation is the last man standing that still streams the show.
Sorry, Blindfold Gang, you were too good for this wicked world. At least we'll always have our memories of the episode 9 derpface. |

I do wonder if availability of the shows is more dictated by the contract which was specific to Funimaion and not Crunchyroll. I can definitely see Japanese companies making that distinction in their documents which would make it harder to simply just transfer the show. They would likely have to renew the show in its entirety.
Anyway! I've seen most of what's on the list, sans Tenchi Muyo, Wixoss and Eureka 7, though I'll be watching Wixoss later in the year sometime. Samurai Flamenco is absolutely ridiculous, very much worth a watch if you like Super Sentai and surreal humor and Outlaw Star is another classic. |

I'd argue its flatout better if you don't. Evol has some downright offensive decisons as someone who like Genesis. There's a reason stuff like that was left on the cutting room floor in the original. Plus I'd argue Evol gets worse as it goes on unlike Genesis where it gets better and does some really bad damage to characters in the long run like Fudo. |

I really need to buy the UK bluray of Samurai Flamenco for my regionfree bluray player. We watched it in my anime club in 2021 completely blind except for the guy who nominated it and, in a rare move for us, i think everyone ended up really liking/respecting it.

Kind of crazy how seemingly random the assortment of things that will disappear is. Older titles that are considered classics, stuff that was on TV back in the day, parts of otherwise successful series, or specific language tracks.
Once again, relying on a service to keep something available is risky, at best. Heck, this weekend, I ended up binging My Adventures with Superman because, while my Youtube TV DVR space might be unlimited, the shows themselves come with expiration dates. But don't worry, if you missed it, it conveniently funnels you towards buying a Max subscription.
