Considering the amount of changes the first season had, I wonder how are they gonna handle Misao. Liden toned down the comedy a lot in the first season and Misao was mostly created to contrast Kenshin's more seriousness personality as the Kyoto arc was far darker than previous ones. Will it be like the Shin Kyoto OVAs?

I like the adaptation so far, but for some reason, I feel like it is “missing” something and I can’t put my finger on it….

Hopefully they keep the comedic aspects this time around. It’s a darker series for sure, but some comedy during the lighter times is nice.

I certainly hope so, and I think that is reasonable. Looking at the episode titles for the older series, it looks like we're at about episode 32 with the Kyoto arc ending around 61. I don't think they'd do 26 episodes, not finish, and need to come back for more.

Style. In the 90s version, the scene where Kenshin departed for Kyoto was one of those moments that launched a thousand AMVs. In this, it's nothing special. I hope some retooling has gone on during the break, so that we'll be seeing more swinging for the fences by the time it gets to stuff that hasn't been adapted before. Though TBH, I'm fine with just the live action movies at this point; not sure I'm ready for the nuttier aspects of the Jinchuu arc's bad guys.
As for Urusei Yatsura's new adaptation, I also felt it was missing something early on. In that case it was the anime-original stuff that Mamoru Oshii brought to the table; Megane and Lum's Stormtroopers in particular. Some stories were only getting a half or a third of an episode, too, when more room to breathe might have helped. That said, the series has been growing on me, especially since that two-parter with Mendou's arranged fiancee.

The remake didn't go in Kyoto arc yet, so it's not really a fair comparison, especially when it actually did better than the OG in a lot of Tokyo Arc parts (Aoshi Arc was way better for example).
And if anything I think BGM was the bigger factor. It was a lot more ambient compared to the 90s in your face approach.

As a manga purist I felt like most stuff are pretty spot on. I honestly hated a lot of OG additions that felt like detracts from the story (like the Gensai's nieces) or drags on far too long for no good reason. The new anime additions seems to be mostly in line with story and supplements it more (compare Sanosuke fighting Kenshin again for no good reason in OG to Sanosuke fighting his friend and arguing how people are capable of putting their social status aside even in this not so good government in remake).
