This is awesome, even if I don't own an iphone. Murata doujinshi are expensive to buy second hand unless you know someone in Japan to pick one up for you at a convention. Hopefully if sales are good, more of his stuff will be published over here. This doesn't beat owning an actual copy, but still great for a fan to support the artist and still be able to see the stuff.

Downloading now. Hopefully, unlike the previous Abe release (Pochiyama at the Pharmacy), it'll
a) have at least a half-coherent english translation (how on earth did 'tantou' become 'gun in a tube')
b) have a resolution greater than 480x320.

::EDIT::
First impressions: the resolution is high, limited by the app's zooming capability. Very good. There is no translation of the few scattered notes. I might have a poke around over ssh, see if the images are stored in a standard format viewable on other devices.

Did I miss a memo?

This is brilliant. I paid 100 bucks for his Form Code book and the average of his doujins (at the time) were about $50.
I hope see more artist do similar stuff like this. It's affordable, but as long as it's made available to many people I think can see a lot of good come out of this.

You will not find much text in Murata's work. It's mostly art and sketches.
He doesn't do stories in a traditional sense. One of doujins, Marion, were sequences that made a intense story.

I'm just disappointed that his other series, Robot, isn't as readily available as promised. First DMP books dropped it for the rights being tangled, and now it's the same situation for Udon Entertainment.
Anway, I read that Range Murata has a artbook compilation (iirc, of his previous doujins/sketches/promo) involving Last Exile, but I forgot the details.

Then I have some bad news. The sub-archive in which the images are stored is password protected, both in the appfile downloaded from itunes and on the iphone itself. A cursory poke through the other files didn't revel a a password left foolishly in plain text, and I don't have the savvy required to crack the archive.
