Why not just play the entire movie if you want kids to see it? Oh, yes, Japanese distributors tend to be dumb. Rolling Eyes

Please look at the dates of these New York International Children's Film Festival screenings. They start on Saturday, June 6.

The official English premiere of Ponyo will take place at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 28. The NYICFF cannot show the entire film before the official premiere.

You're trying to compare a test screening with a festival showing. Please understand that studios often hold private test screenings before official premieres. That is sort of the point of test screenings.

Please also understand that if one festival, particularly a prominent one like the Los Angeles Film Festival, is offered the official premiere of a film, another festival cannot show the same entire film before. That sort of defeats the point of premieres.
