I like this.

There were three major problems with the Ore no Imouto anime. First, was the character of Kyousuke. On a show like this one, the male lead is always the lowest common denominator, to allow for the viewer to imagine himself as the character, as if he was vicariously the male lead. This has lead to most harem/ecchi romances to feature the most boring and one-dimensional characters possible as the male lead. In the case of Ore no Imouto, the Kyousuke has become so boring and one-dimensional that it has become the equivalent of dividing by zero and he has gone through the other side and into some bizarre form of sadomasochism. Secondly, the character of Kirino was very shallow and weak. She was a reactive character, not an active one. She basically was a 40-year old otaku in a teen girl's body. You know that fat hacker from Steins;Gate? That is her true form. And thirdly, the show itself was fundamentally flawed. More that 75% of the air time was devoted to showing this awkward, one-sided schoolgirl crush Kirino had on her brother. 75% of the show was devoted to showing something completely irrelevant, since the incest romance did not, and would not, exist. It was almost complete waste of time.

But...

Centering the story on Kuroneko solves all three of the problems. The character of Kyousuke is still weak, but he had much better chemistry with Kuroneko and didn't go all sadomasochist. Kirino and her flaws are shuffled off to the side (a much better outcome all around, since Kirino is far too shallow to hold the spotlight on her own, but would make a good supporting character). And there now can be a serious romantic tale that actually could lead to two characters hooking up, instead of the dead end street that is incest. In other words, this is the story that should have been made in the first place.

1) I completely disagree i thought Kyousuke was the strong point of the series. I found him to be a completely refreshing male lead, to the point where he was a much more intresting character then Kirino. Kyousuke's just an all round nice guy it was nice to see.

2) I had problems liking Kirino too until that episode where she apologized to Kyousuke.

3) An incestious relationship isn't a "Deadend" plot, there are entire series based around the idea like Koi Kaze. Personally though, i do think Kyousuke has more chemistry with other characters.

4) I wonder how this whole "True end" business is supposed to go, i havnt gotten around to reading the books yet.

I sense a Kuroneko fan within this post. Personally I like Kirino and Kuroneko equally so I'm happy to see a spinoff. Though I would me more interested to see an Ayase spin-off for the yandere factor.

He isn't saying that incest in itself is a dead end but it is when it comes to this series. The incest theme has a lot more history than we think anyway, not limited only to Koi Kaze or some other series.
TBH the mangaka's first manga which featured Kirino wasn't good and now he's trying it with Kuroneko. But likely this one will be bad as well.

There are numerous other incest shows, I'm sure. Even just recently you have like Yosuga no Sora. The thing with OreImo is it was never going to believably head down the incest route. What little development there was, set up Kirino as basically just a younger sister that alienated herself from her brother for years, and was now overreacting to having his attention back in her life.

Suspending disbelief on all the little sister games, of course. Although with better writing, one could believe that it was her coping mechanism imagining either herself with Kyousuke, or putting herself into a pseudo role where she would "definitely be a better older sibling than Kyousuke" or such.

Personally I think this could be interesting. Since it doesn't have to follow the LNs, the writing could theoretically be a lot better, and wouldn't have to dwell on the imouto games constantly and Kirino bitching. Sorta similar to how Railgun is superior in storytelling to Index due to having a more focused plot and not droning on.

This news pleases me. I love the idea. The army of Kuroneko fans is rejoicing.

Now, I don't get why people think Kyousuke is "boring" and "one-dimensional". He really has some issues, just like Kirino. He is jealous of her grades and talents, but he still helps her and tries to support. I mean, here we have this bratty girl who's athletic and makes a lot of money from modeling, AND would've made even more money from some disturbing rape novel she just spontaneously wrote (in the light novels). It's pretty hard not to feel envious as a human being. But above all, he knows it's his duty as a brother to support her, and deep inside, he wants to support her (he's just tsundere like that...). He also, without realizing it himself, changes throughout the series. He becomes an otaku himself. He considers Saori and Kuroneko as his friends and shares their hobbies, which he gradually starts to adopt. That is quite a change from your typical, lame male lead in harem animes.

After watching the ep. 13 & 14 of the "true route" story, this makes sense. With Kirino gone, those episodes were more enjoyable than the entire tv series was. Switching focus from the bratty sister to the more interesting Kuroneko made it a lot easier to watch and funny at times.

I am hoping that it shows what her family life is like. The one episode that showed her at home on a day off and never really showed what her family was like.

I, too, liked Kyousuke so what you said is definitely subjective. That being said, the show is definitely a lot more enjoyable with Kuroneko as the main female character (for obvious reasons).

I look forward to the inevitable anime series for this. Smile

I find this quite stupid. Whats the point of making a Kuroneko book when she's all over in Kirino's actual book ( Beware Spoiler inc )

spoiler[ In Volume 5 she was sorta the replacement for Kirino after she left for america in which she was actually the main heroine during that period and in the of Volume 7 she becomes Kyousuke's girlfriend so exactly what is there to discuss in Kuroneko's book that din't already happen in the Ore no imouto book.]
