Seems like they're moving more towards initial box sets (while still retaining the ovas/extras thankfully) given how MB have made this kind of decision for other titles a few times already, though now they've managed to do it "just in time" before actually releasing an orphaned volume
I'm glad I waited for the Dragon Destiny box and would've waited to see if there would be one for Great Guardians anyways, but damn that seems like a long time. Hopefully, what Chris mentioned in the original article, that it should be coming much earlier than March 2012 to specialty shops or cons at least turns out to be so. |

The one thing that I've always liked about smaller publishers like Media Blasters and Nozomi is that they always offer value for money with their releases in the form of including as many extras as they can whereas the likes of Funi and Section 23 hardly offer any extras at all (and in the case of Section 23/Sentai at times, none at all!)
Look at it this way, why should I pay good money for a release which hardly has any extras or no extras or even an English dub, and is in fact, nothing but a glorified fansub! At least with Media Blasters and Nozomi, I know I get value for money with the releases that I buy from them (I may download fansubs and I hope that Ro-Kyu-Bu! gets a dub as well as some decent extras, but I'm not holding out hope!) |

well that sucks i mean it s cool and all they are making it 1 boxset but i rather fork the extra few bucks and get it now if anything it sounds like it will be more and here i was looking forward to it arriving in the mail in a few weeks now i have to wait til spring Crap

That's true, but if I wanted to, I could easily download the original fansub release instead if I wanted to... (I'm speaking hypothetically here, BTW) Look at "He is My Master", that came out a few years ago in the US on DVD, but I didn't buy it as there was no dub on the DVD's plus no extras as well, so I've decided to keep my fansubs instead of the series that I downloaded and watch those instead. |

I wonder if this decision is a one-off, or if MB is abandoning its half set release strategy? I hope it has. I like the Funi and S23 strategy of releasing one cours shows in their entirety right off the bat. One thing I'll give MB credit for is their pricing. Their MSRP (when calculated on a per epsiode basis) stacks up very favourably versus any other R1 distrib.

^ I was actually happy they decided to do this. Half season sets work with half year or full year shows, but I think it is a bit pointless for a one season show to do that unless the episodes are like a hour long. I know they are technically not singles since they are 6 or 7 episode sets, but maybe MB will finally start to get away from this "singles" route and start going with the complete set from the get go.

i really wanted it to come in a 3 dvd individual set and the complete set as well but thats a long time !!!!!!! i like how they did dragon destiny dvd set with the complete series, it makes the collection more better, but i hope they do a special edition or a bluyray ikkitousen GG complete set

I'm happy that they are releasing a single collection rather than the individuals. I already own the previous 2 series in single collections and this seems to fit nicely. I wish all series were released like this and abandoned the individual DVD market when possible. This not only saves the consumer money, but also the company by reducing the plastic that the cases are made of, thus reducing shipping costs via weight. Plus, it helps consumers keep track of their anime.

A show not having a dub makes me MORE likely to buy it. Why would I want to pay a higher price for an audio track I'll never use? |

It comes down to perceived value. Each person values certain things about a product differently. I could just as easily argue that I shouldn't have to pay for the subtitle track that I'll probably never use, but I also value the option. And I also acknowledge that making separate discs with two separate tracks would probably raise prices in the long run because of increased materials. |

For some people this is true. Everyone has their own priorities. Also, the people who use the fansub argument for not buying sub-only sets can never respond to the same argument for not buying dubbed sets. You can just as easily download and stream dubbed episodes illegally for free, not to mention the number of legal sites such as Crunchyroll and Anime Network. What's the point in buying a dubbed set when you can easily get the episodes and extras online for free? |

I whole-heartedly agree. This is exactly the question I ask myself everytime I see these "premium" sub-only sets come out from NIS and Aniplex. |

This move also consolidates their catalogue, cutting down on SKUs.
Oh cool, no one is posting about how this series should just die. Anyways, I'll be buying if it gets a dub. Oh look, there are already sparks in that kindling. Regarding He is My Master... I don't watch fansubs. So I'll cling to my official English manga and ignore the existence of the anime until such time that I make the effort to see if a legal online sub stream even exists. I'm in no rush for either series though. A big stack of DVDs from Right Stuf just came in and today's banner reminds me that I'll probably be making a new order for Spice & Wolf 2 in a few weeks. There are so many anime, manga, and games to enjoy! |
