Personally, I'd like to see a bonus crossover strip with Green Lantern actually in Kinnikuman. Laughing Not sure why DC chose to cross-promote with that manga, considering GL's a little less low-brow, but I guess with all those aliens in the movie, that was the closest similar title they could think of on the Japanese end. And I'm amused by the irony of CMX choosing to remove a manji from one of their manga, while DC has no problem teaming up w/ a property which spawned Brocken, Jr..

Do they?

Do they really?

Ok, yeah they do, but still. Cheesy/bad superhero movies tend to do pretty well there, they find them amusing.

So does anyone know if Green Lantern even has a following in Japan? I know there was a Lupin spoof of JLA in Mamo, but that pic featured Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman.

In all seriousness I'd like to see Green Lantern take on Sunshine.

Obviously Kinnikuman himself will win the tag choice.

Yeah, the Japanese people were instead too busy making the travesty called Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides their #1 movie for 7 out of 8 straight weeks! Laughing

That may explain One Piece too........ Or maybe it's just pirates obsession again. Laughing

I don't think the movie even came out in Japan yet, this might just be promotional stuff.

American Superheros and Japan have an interesting relationship. The more goofy and campy it is, the more they'll take to it. It's kind of why Batman Begins/Dark Knight flopped in Japan. To them, superheroes should be silly and over the top and not taken seriously.

“The story [of the Dark Knight] is very pessimistic. It has a dark and gloomy texture that Japanese movie fans do not find appealing in an American superhero film… Japanese movie fans expect such films to be fun and action packed, for the hero to be attractive, for the villain to be loud and outrageous, and for the movie itself to be easy to understand and light." - Chika Minagawa, Film Critic

I suppose you can say the same for On Stranger Tides.. silly and nonsensical, just like they think American films should be. Razz

Now I wonder how they felt about the Schumacher films

Hmmmm....... that is an interesting take......... Come to think of it, it's the inverse of America's take on Japan's superheroes a.k.a. super robots - just replace "superheroes" with "super robots" in your statement, and it's the same. That's interesting how they reflect each other in this case.......

Now who's being shallow?! And people blame Hollywood for popcorn flicks! Laughing

Silly and nonsensical......... just like Americans think of anime. We've all seen the parodies. Laughing

I don't think this thread is complete without mentioning a certain "news report" from The Onion. Rolling Eyes

If we're talking about Jordan, then his natural adversary should be Benkiman.

I'd like to see Gardner team up with Terryman. I guess Guy would hate him, and the poor Terry won't even notice and call him a friend.

Ramenman vs Sinestro in a epic mustache fight..

Personally, I'm surprised there wasn't a cross-promotion deal with Hulk and/or Thor.
