My interest is mostly piqued by the companies that license shows for release in the US before they've even aired in Japan. Sentai picked Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, which is apparently a big pile of crap, but also Bodacious Space Pirates which, unless it really tanks later, is the surprise hit of the season. NISA picks Brave 10, which looked all kinds of awesome from the trailer but is a giant turd once you start watching it.

I would imagine coming in early with a license may net some gems before the cost of being an established hit kicks in, but it can just as easily saddle a company with another liability that no one wants to own.

I would watch Hunter X Hunter if it didn't show the same stuff from the first series. Even the first episode from the island test was identical to the one from the first anime so I'm not really hooked.

By the way, what happened with the Persona 4 series?

I recently bought Onegai Teacher and I haven't watched it yet, so I don't know if what you referenced is a spoiler, but it certainly sounds significant. I'm really hoping you didn't just spoil something major.

If you thought Mirai Nikki lost it, wait and watch episode 15. It keeps getting dumber.

Laughing Someone is channeling Blood-. If he isn't watching it already, then he might pop in to take a quick peeksies now.

The only shows I have a particular interest in now are Chihayafuru and Bootylicious Space Privateering Babes (eh, close enough). I'll probably pick up Chihayafuru soon and then follow-up with ARR! Real Booby Pirates when it is close to being finished.

I'll probably check out some others after they're all finished, but I don't feel any strong drive to see 'em now.

EDIT: I loved the images you chose for some of the series. We got some serious boobilicious for Bodonkadonk, and Hisoka's face in Hunter just about threw me out of my chair. Laughing

I'm actually a bit surprised that Lagrange held on. I figured that would go down before Brave 10 based on the previews.

I'm a bit sketchy on Knight in the Area. It's not bad, but it became hard to take Kakeru seriously towards the end of the third ep. The spoiler[personality shift] seemed a bit overblown. (Not sure how much that's a spoiler but I'll play safe.)

I've commented about this in the column and on Twitter before, but Chihayafuru is unique in that every single episode is really damned good. Every week, I wonder if maybe we're due for a sub-par episode, but every week, the series delivers a consistent, emotional high.

Okay, I really love Chihayafuru. I really do. It was my favorite fall anime and it remains my favorite anime for winter currently. However, episode 13 was that episode. It truly was. The only episode of Karuta madness that I did not enjoy. Having spoiler[Chihaya randomly lose consciousness in the very first team match was just incredibly stupid. It wasn't hinted at one bit that she was sick/exhausted, nor was it ever explained, and hell, she was up completely fine the next day. Hell, the episode opened with her asking the gods at the shrine that the team be spared from any accidents and that she didn't need any miracles. Was the exhaustion supposed to be her getting punished for not asking for a miracle?] Seriously, what the hell was the author thinking? That was incredibly stupid. Still though, the match between Chihaya and Shinobu made up for that easily.

Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere is Great series it was pretty confusing at first and way too condensed and had too many things mashed together, but once the story opens up at the end it gets more straight forward. Season 2 can't wait.

You're a stronger person than me I quit watching Future Diary after episode six, it had the same problems I had with Deadman Wonderland. In that it just turned into a collection of scenes of horrible people doing horrible things to eachother.

for no other reason than to purintly and exploteivelly linger over it a sub genre I have now dubbed "misery porn"

As far s the character design in Listin To Me Girls I'm You're Father I don't think it's that bad (kind of reminded me of Mitsudmoe)

spoiler[I thought the lack of hints was fine since Chihaya isn't the kind of person who will let on that she isn't feeling well if it might interfere with her participation. As for her recovery, it's not really that surprising that an anime character recovers faster than s/he should. The whole thing was also a motivator for the team to not lean on Chihaya so much and push themselves harder to win, which I thought worked well.]

Just my perspective on it.

As Zac and I talked about in last week's ANNCast, this series might never be licensed.

It's worth noting that FUNimation just posted a survey about new anime titles that the company could look into licensing and Chihayafuru was among the surveyed titles. If you're looking to give a local distributor your two cents about this or other recent titles, now's the time!

OK This.

i like the idea, just filled it out myself, top 4 "must buy" titles where: Gosick, Anohana, Chihayafuru and Mirai Nikki
i'd lost pretty much any hope that Gosick, AnoHana and Chihayafuru would ever get a release now, so if this leads to even just one getting a release i'll be happy, especially if its Chihayafuru, the other titles i thought may get one but without this The Stream i wouldn't have even heard of it like alot of people

Nah, don't worry. All of that is revealed super duper early on.
