God how I wish they did ;___; It seems so unfair that they're suddenly milking so much out of this franchise after it was asleep for so long and they're gradually changing everything. The main cast being the most notable thing of course... (And WHY, for lord's sake, WHY did they change it? If you compare the old TV series and the 2003 OVA, only the animation tells you the age difference. The actors still sounded EXACTLY the same.)

Well so much was said so we can't know for certain, but from the articles I read and Furuya-San's comments after the news broke. It's a one man show decision by Kuramada who after watching the 2003 OVA and 2004 movie that the seiyuu sounded older and no longer cool. So he decided to cast younger cooler ones.
I like Kuramada's works but I always believe that giving so much freedom and decision making authority to one person no matter what or who he is; is a receipt for disaster. Even Spielberg doesn't have such thing in his movies (well maybe George Lucas does).

I don't know if you'd call the new CG movie, the new game, and the new anime milking it per se - all of this is being done to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Saint Seiya and really, how many series can boast that? Saint Seiya has been one of those steady fanbases since it first came out, and clearly from all the comments about the new releases, it's a fanbase that still goes strong. Aside from that, Saint Seiya has long been overdue for a revival, and this is exactly what I was hoping for when The Lost Canvas began to get released.

As for changing the main cast, well, people get older, circumstances change. Sad Even the Hades Chapter doesn't have all of the same voices as from the original series. Some of the original VAs have passed away, others have moved on and are no longer in the voice-acting business. It'd be nice to always bring back the original voices, but it doesn't always happen. At least the new ones make a good attempt at being true to the original tone of the character. Mostly.

Or perhaps I'm just optimistic. Smile I still haven't given up hope for an actual, full, non-butchered North America DVD release and a more accurate translation of the manga.
