Wow, I would've thought Kashimashi was on that list already. But this is a good addition.

Wandering Son is just beautiful, absolutely well-deserved.

I loved this series in the beginning, but later volumes just got further and further tangential until I finally just couldn't be bothered and stopped reading. The author seemed to be unsure what to do with the main character, until we get to a point where he barely seems to feature in the series anymore. A couple of the authors works actually suffer from this. She just keeps on adding to the cast, and loses focus of her original story. What makes it strange is that usually the first bunch of volumes are focused very much on the main character, and then suddenly branch out. Though if you like stories with larger casts you should have no problem.

Kashimashi wasn't all that serious, and I would hesitate to say it explores the same issues. Given it included aliens, genderswapping etc and was more a 'what if' scenario, rather than an exploration of GLBTQ issues.

good for Wandering Son. I haven't read the manga, but I watched the short 11 episode anime, and if that short sampler was any indication of the quality of the manga, then it deserves to be on the list. There far too few anime or even entertainment in general that seriously explores lgbtq issues. Have to raise an eyebrow at the person who mentioned kashimashi, that's really not doing any of the same things as Wandering Son.

"Q"? Queer? Is that supposed to mean something specific now instead of being a slang term?

Last I checked, that bit of the acronym stood for "Questioning"(and by "checked", I mean I saw it on an episode of Law & Order that had it as part of an even longer acronym - this sort of thing doesn't really interest me all that much).

I'm more interested that they actually call it the 'Rainbow List'. Isn't that a bit.. stereotypical?

Great news for Wandering Son! Smile
Perhaps, if sales continue to be good, maybe the Aoi Hana manga can be licensed (I haven't read the manga yet but I have heard many positive things about the anime).

Technically no. The 'rainbow flag' has been used as a symbol of gay pride since the 70's.
In fact, it has been used by many cultures actually.

The manga may have some other significance in Japan, but I really don't understand why the N² people have to push their agenda so hard.

Yes. Marginalizing too. GLBTQ people need a special list cause they're different.

And what agenda might that be?

How the hell is gay people making a list about gay media marginalizing?

Maybe we should go yell at the Soul Train Awards for "marginalizing" black people while we're at it...

Or maybe GLBTQ need a special list because there's so little media that portray GLBTQ people that it can all fit on a single list? Seems to me that it's way more marginalizing that the vast majority of mass media contains no GLBTQ characters and those people that are GLBTQ are expected to enjoy it the same as everyone else, even if it doesn't appeal to them, for obvious reasons.
