"I would strongly suggest not importing it."

I can strongly guess that means they'll be bringing it out themselves, otherwise why would anyone say that. Not bad, I'd prefer to see Bloodlust or Neo Tokyo come out on BluRay instead of Ninja Scroll, but I guess it was always more popular internationally, given that they are including the dub.

I'll buy it when it's avaible for domestic release. Until then I'm still keeping the DVD I've had for atleast half a year now.

My all-time favorite guilty pleasure. Here's hoping they do a great job remastering it. I will definitely be picking this up when it hits U.S. shelves.

If Manga is releasing it, that would be fantastic news.

Too bad they can't get Perfect Blue on BD. I want that one badly. That's a film that needed a serious upgrade (wasn't even anamorphic DVD), although I have heard gripes about the Japanese blu-ray of Perfect Blue.

I was seriously interested when I saw "Blu-ray Disc to Include English Dub", then saw the price. Yikes! Manga Entertainment's comments further down the article restored my hope that a more reasonably priced BD with English dub will be released in N.A. and the U.K. I liked this movie from the first time I saw it on Teletoon many years ago, when the channel first started up. They had a block of movies they would rotate through that included Patlabor: The Movie, Patlabor 2, Macross Plus, NInja Scroll, and a few others. All were Manga Entertainment titles, if I recall correctly.

I think I've heard they lost the rights to Perfect Blue.

That said, the Blu-ray pretty much gives away just how terrible that film looks. Low cel counts, sloppy painting, cells bumping up off the backgrounds... it's one that you might be better off just enjoying on DVD. (FWIW, it's not the Blu-ray -- I remember it looking pretty awful in the theater.)

There go my hopes for Ninja Scroll in the Criterion Collection. Maybe they'll pick up Cyber City OEDO 808.

I just finished rewatching 808's remastered DVDs, and it looks really damn good. I'm betting it sucked all of the animation budget and talent away from Lodoss.

From what I recall of my experience seeing it in a theater was that most of these errors were only noticeable during shots without much movement. In scenes where there was a lot of action going on, such things seemed less noticeable.

Somehow the idea of Perfect Blue looking "low rent" appeals to me, considering its debt to old Italian grindhouse thrillers. All I want is clarity. I don't expect it to look pristine, polished and shiny like Redline, but I'd like to see original grain, dirt, animation errors in all its *clearly* ugly glory.

Anyway, as I said, the existing R1 DVD is still flawed because it's not anamorphic. So whether blu-ray or DVD, it definitely still needs another re-release.

Anyway, yeah, I heard Manga lost the rights which is why I'm not holding my breath. But the film can't be too expensive to license, can it? It wasn't a hugely successful film in Japan. You know who should pick this up, though? Blue Underground. It fits right in with their catalogue.
