It's a shame too, because Elliot actually IS my favorite ^^; I bought this volume hoping it would be as good as the others, and alas, it is terribly lacking...

My favorites from the first series were Julius, Peter, and then Elliot.
This book was very bland. It is really too bad because the bunny guys in the previous books were so amusing. I've always loved Peter's ridiculous rhyming, which is even more hilarious in the Cheshire Cat Waltz series. Elliot sure is a big, cute bunny guy, but what I'm missing from him is his usual denial about being a rabbit, contradicted by the fact that he obviously loves rabbit-ey things. i.e. spoiler[ "I don't like carrots. I just love stuff made with carrots!"]. Really disappointed with the writing in this book. Too bad. Unfortunately, this is the case with a lot of yaoi creators. They are either good at either art, or story. Very seldom both. The art is pretty nice, but I don't care for her rendition of Peter at all. His face is way too pretty and shota-ish, considering what a murderous, unscrewed individual he usually is. |

Even though the art and the story is blend, for me I actually like it cause the love story is better than Alice x Blood who have a love-hate relationship.
To be fair, I don't like Peter rhyming. It just remove the dark atmosphere around him and beside, Peter is not suppose to have rhythm in his speech. Lianne who translate the clover series and the TokyoPop version have rhythm in it and she thinks it funny to put in it because it suit Peter the way he is. YenPress didn't include the rhythm and stay faithful to the original.[/b] |

Blood was always my least favorite character. He's an abusive bully, IMO. Alice choosing him = Stockholm Syndrome.
Well, IMO, that's a tragedy. Without it, it's like all the humor is sucked out of the series. All that means to me, is the writing is worse than I originally thought.

Absolutely with you there. I was quite disappointed when he turned out to be the romantic interest in the first series. I was kind of hoping for Peter; creepy though he is, he actually seems to know her as a person.
But they did include the rhyming when they reissued (and in the case of volume 6, translated) the first series. In any event, translation is a tricky proposition, and you rarely end up using the exact words and phrases present in the original language. Sometimes you have to give a character a speech pattern or quirk in order to convey something that simply changing the language of the words won't do. In the case of Peter's rhyming, I feel it makes him a more sympathetic character; without it, he comes off as, by turns, pathetic and nearly as scary as Blood. Since from my sister's experiences with the game neither of those seem like what they were going for, I think the rhymed speech helps to convey something that simple translation alone can't. Okay, that was probably way too much analysis of a comic book based on a game that messes with a classic novel. Just getting in practice for the semester to start!

For what it's worth, I wrote an essay about why I make Peter rhyme in all the scripts I adapt (Tokyopop's run of Hearts, Seven Seas' run of Clover/Joker/etc.).
