This sounds very much like it has Cinavia as its base which is not shocking as Sony is one of the biggest backers of the Verance.

Mark my words: The corporations are going to do the same thing to digital books and movies too. They are going destroy the used-media industry. It has nothing to do with intellectual property protection as they so vocally claim. It's only about money.

They're called CD-keys and they've existed since early PC days.
I'm not really hung up about this kind of thing as other people might be. Very rarely do I buy games used (judging by the quality in Gamestop and on ebay, apparently I'm the only one who knows how to keep track of cases, manuals, and not throw the DVD across the room and scratch it up) Plus, anything that helps murderer Gamestop I can't help but approve of. |

I've often wondered how games get in as bad of shape as they do by the time they get to Gamestop. Half of the games don't even have cases anymore... do people just throw away the cases and manuals or something? That makes no sense to me. |

I can see people being upset about this and I can also see people cheering for the downfall of gamestop and other buy and sell retailers like this, to those people I just shake my head and say this. Hey the guys and gals working there have to make a living somehow. when will people learn that wishing for the down fall of any company or business isn't justified by how much a group of people dislike it

If they go through with it, than I'll have to be very picky in what I want from games even more. I like used games as a back up in case I wasn't able to get a game at the time, especially for rare games.

And then there are some here that dare defend corporations, take offense and take it almost personal when some of us mention corporations are EVIL and that in this day they dont give a damn about you, me, the consumers, they only care about money and control.

CD keys are not the same, in the sense that I can just erase the game from the current computer and reinstall it on another. I can still sell the game used. As far as I know pc games have not gotten to the point of install it on one computer and thats it. Though last game I bought was diablo II LOD.

This isn't the same as CD keys, which are transferable. RFID technology locks in a relationship between reader and writer, and once formed, can not be transferred. Your very stupid comment against Gamestop shows you don't understand the issue at all, and I can see any discussion on the matter with you is a waste of time. You should be ashamed of yourself for being this ignorant. *** I think people are getting too upset over this, especially when the purpose of this tech is no different than downloading any game on a console today. Try taking in an XBox 360 with all those games paid for. You won't get a penny for any of them, because they're not transferable. The only way gamers can "keep" their games is contacting the console maker and requesting a license transfer to a new console. Sony's just upping the anti to physical disks. This is what happens, people, when you allow your first sale rights to be eroded. It all started with apps, and now it's getting worse. Soon, you'll be leasing everything you pay for, and own nothing. I'm surprised publishers haven't patented a binder device in books that instantly disintegrates them after a period of time. |

Should be noted that this isn't the first time Sony has made a patent for something like this. Around the ps3 launch in 2006 they had a patent out for essentially the same thing only that one didn't use RFID chips. Did we ever see that? Nope we sure didn't. Patents are filed everyday and a large number of them never get used. The one in 2006 never got used and odds are this one won't either. People just have a sheep mind mentality and will get caught up in whatever snowball it is at the time.

Let see I buy a game and a some one ask to barrow said game. I would not be able to lend them that game?
Now I would not be able to trade in the same game at gamestop or resell the said game due to what? what is the point of owner ship? game costs better come WAY down in price if this is the new model. and I liked Sony, |

I dont care if used games go extinct or if gamestop goes bankrupt, but having a friend over and not being able to play his game together that night is stupid.

That's pretty stupid. Over the holiday break I brought some games to my cousin's house to play and my other cousin's husband did the same as well. This new thing would apparently not allow those games to be playable? Sounds pretty stupid unless it's at least like the 360 where I can download my profile on any console or bring my profile on a thumbstick and have everything work fine. |
