I saw the world premiere of this movie at the recent Big Apple Anime Fest. Despite all the technical difficulties we experienced I still had the most fun I have ever had at any movie, anime or not. Definitely, one of my top 5 anime titles now. Smile

So if you're in Southern California, you should really try to get to San Diego and catch this flick because it won't be released in Japan until November and that usually means North America won't see it again until much later. Crying or Very sad

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If you're a shonen ai or yaoi fan, be wary of Tokyo Godfathers, because it's very homophobic. On a personal note, it's also weaker in terms of characterization and story than Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress. Watching Tokyo Godfathers after the previous films is like watching Jedi after A New Hope and Empire.

I didn't see the movie as very homophobic. Granted, a few of the characters are homophobic but it really had very little (if any) bearing on the movie as a whole and I don't think it would be enough to totally disgust the shonen ai and yaoi audience.

As for characterization, the movie didn't give it time to develop but I thought the story with its fluidity and humor was good enough to overlook it.
