This was bound to happen eventually. I'm excited to see how this will end up. $4.99 for 12 different manga right now is kinda pricey. But give it a year and it will be well worth it. I wonder if it's going to have a shared Anime/Manga subscription?

It is absolutely fantastic that this will be available in 170 countries, with over 50 titles expected to come out this summer.I will most certainly pay for this service.
Some very popular and good mangas are offered there,so I dont think this project will fail and finally we can actually get Space Brtohers manga .The same author of Yamada kun wrote Yanki-kun to Megane-chan ,bring it on!Also there is chance Chihayafuru might get here and if it succeeds digitally...

What are the chances of the scanlators of Yamada-kun getting to work on the official translation? Their translation/adaptation was so, so good. I think that was the most I've laughed while reading any manga. Definitely most I've laughed while reading a scanlation.

Smart. They have been flirting with the concept for a while now and it makes sense to make manga available for anime titles that you also stream from a business and synergy point-of-view. I'm not a big manga reader, so I'm unsure if I'll subscribe to that too (Anime Subscriber), but perhaps I'll give it a try one day…

good titles to start. it will work if they can ask most illegal manga sites to not publish their manga like shonen jump did, otherwise, we will have to wait and see.

Well this is very interesting to see, can't wait to see how this will be a hit among anime/manga fans that use Crunchyroll.

Asking manga scanlation reader sites to not put up the stuff usually hasn't worked, in terms of actually stopping them. Besides, a fair number of them use bots anyway to automatically upload.
Just gotta hope you draw in enough people for financial viability regardless.

Anyway, I see this as an avenue of exposure for Wagatsuma and Nanatsu no Taizai. And those two deserve paths to success.

Space Brothers & Attack on Titans are the only ones that interest me but unfortunately not enough for the price.

Now if they add Chihayafuru I might consider.

I hope Mysterious Girlfriend X getting licensed digitally is a sign that Kodansha USA will announce that they'll be printing it, since I'm really only interested in reading manga on paper.

If Kodansha USA also wants to use Crunchyroll to test the waters for physical releases of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou and Minami-ke, I suppose I'm not entirely against this development even as a proud physical media luddite.

I figured something like this would happen eventually since WSJ being day and date seems to be doing pretty well for Viz/Shueisha and it would make sense for other publishers to want to jump on board. Wasn't expecting it to happen through CR though and the launch line-up looks pretty good since there's some stuff not available here yet.

I just hope they can eventually expand it beyond just Kodansha manga unless the other publishers plan on doing their own seperate things.

In any event this is excellent news. Well done Crunchyroll Very Happy Very Happy

How many of them stopped uploading them, and how many of them simply block X regions from viewing One Piece/Naruto/Bleach?

Still a fair amount of reader sites out there that continue to upload them and don't block any region.

--

Anyway, that ties Kodansha to CR for the time being, while Shueisha and Shogakukan have their ownership of Viz. How many major publishers are there left without western affiliate (digital) publishers?

Unfortunately I don't agree with that philosophy. I think $4.99 is a lot just to support a venture so maybe they will license a series I like.

Chihayafuru is already one of the most requested titles when Kodansha does their most wanted license polls. For various reasons Kodansha is not licensing it for physical release. I see no good reason why they can't license it for this.

If they don't well then I will have to rely on the manga scanlations because they are not getting my money otherwise. CR I already support as an anime subscriber.

Besides they already said they will eventually add more titles, so I will see then.
