Having only seen the original Macross (not Plus or 7) — and even then only as part of Robotech — I can't say that Frontier made a lick of sense to me when I watched it a few years back, and the Alto / Sheryl / Ranka triangle was deeply unatisfying. Still, Frontier sure is pretty, and the songs are great.
