The original Burr-less picture is a serious piece of classic filmography. It's nice to see it be screened in it's restored version here in the US. Pity it's not being shown here in Central Florida / Florida at all.

The Burr-less Rialto restoration is owned by Criterion, and has been out on Blu-ray for a few months now.
I've only seen it once onscreen, and yes, you've gotta see it with an audience that only knows the Burr version.

(I'd never seen the Burr version until I Netflixed it last month--
It's rather ironic that Burr's character is named "Steve Martin", as his editing himself into the Honda movie literally looks like something out of "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid". Wink )

Aaaaaaaaaaand Metro Detroit gets left out again.

Good thing I have the BLU-RAY! *watches*

And yeah, the uncut version is a masterpiece. The Burr re-cut is OK I suppose, as far as dubs go (hilarious to hear them SPECIFICALLY leaving in Hai's and Ee's and Aa's, which are captioned on the Blu-Ray as "mumbling", instead of the wishy-washy MUST SCRUB CLEAN OF ALL JAPANESENESS that once plagued anime and manga) but so redundant today that it's downright boring to sit through. Anyone who's only seen that version needs to see the original Honda film, no question about it.

Agreed. My first viewing of Godzilla was the Burr version some 35-40 years ago. After having later watched the original version, I found myself definitely preferring it over the Burr version. I'll watch either if they're on the tele, but I'll always hope it's the original version if I see it listed on the channel guide.
