I am surprised there are two "classic" anime characters on this list from mostly the newer generation.

Evangelion and Sailor Moon aren't just classics, they're icons.
But I still think it's even more surprising that Sayaka isn't #1. I'd love to see a red-headed heroine list; so many possibilities (Asuka, Kyouko, Lina, Erza…) |

I don't know - even though Madoka Magica is white hot at the moment (and a great show), Rei is such an incredibly iconic character. She's pretty much the first thing you think of when blue hair is mentioned. I would have been stunned to see any other character win that poll. |

And Ami is the FIRST thing you think of when you think of "Shy, intellectual blue hair". Besides, always thought Konata's was more purple. (And I guess Miku had to be disqualified for not technically being an anime character.) |

Apropos of nothing, what are people calling the live-action Sailor Moon these days? I mean, the name "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon" got a lot less unambiguous when the manga rerelease started.

I'm sure she's somewhere in the Top 25. Erika doesn't fit the 'blue character' stereotype, being hyper and brash. |

I imagine Akihabara's reputation as 'Mecca of Nerds' is so strong that if you ever set one foot there, you'll be automatically labelled as hardcore anime fan/otaku... even if you're just some random tourist/'casual' fan with limited knowledge on anime, let alone heroines' hair color.

glad and surprised Hymph is on the list. I liked her, she was a fun and (what seemed to me) a well balanced character, well more balanced then the rest of the cast in the show anyways.

I would have been stunned if Rei wasn't #1. She has been insanely popular both in otaku circles and mainstream forever.

And they're also not ancient and buried, but part of brands that continually pump out new material and grow a fanbase. Eva's got another film coming and Sailor Moon as a new show, and I'd bet Rei got more votes than all of the others combined. Red would be Asuka by the same margins, likely. |
