So it sold 20k less than the opening did in its opening week release but because the release week for the ED had less in terms of competition it achieved a higher rank. My question would be how the heck it lost 20k first week sales.

The OP was released during Golden Week, which gave it a big initial boost. OPs almost always sell more than EDs, too. With that said, the numbers will probably even out in the end.

A few things perhaps contributed...

The ED released a day later in the week. Probably would have got 5K more sales if it had the extra day.

The OP has a Mobile Game code for a rare card while the ED didn't come with a Mobile Game code. I think this bonus counts for a lot. It is likely why that crazy guy bought 100 copies of the OP, to get 100 cards for the game; I don't remember anyone buying 100 copies of the ED. Some people instead drop thousands or even millions of yen in the game to get cards.
